1973 Datsun Z-Series Dealer installed A/C Description

Up for sale is a 1973 Datsun 240Z rescue car with dealer installed A/C. I bought the car from the second owner who purchased it in the late’70s. He was previously an American muscle car/hot rod guy, so the 240Z was a bit of a departure from his norm. He did a little customizing to the car, but for the most part it’s stock. As you’ll see from the photos, he had the seats and door panels upholstered in a funky 70’s black velour with the familiar diamond pattern that matches the rest of the interior. He also installed an exhaust header and put a set of Enkei wheels on it that are much wider than the stock wheels. The original color of the car was Silver, but he decided to paint it White. He drove the car until the mid 80’s, and then lost interest in it. It sat in his shed until I rescued it earlier this year.

I bought the car in non-running condition, but the engine turned freely by hand. I removed/cleaned the carbs, plugged all the open ports in the manifold and re-plumbed the cooling portion of the intake. The engine makes good compression. I replaced the brake master cylinder and bled the system with fresh brake fluid. The clutch works and the gears shift fine. As I drive it through my neighborhood I do not hear any unusual noises from the gearbox or rear end. The car runs/idles, and I can drive it down the street in my neighborhood with no issues but I would highly recommend replacing the carburetors in favor of a set of SU’s from either Z-Therapy or Paltech (or get a set of HS 6’s on your own) as they are much better than the emissions Hitachis that came on the car. Until that happens, the car does not run well enough to be put on the open highway. The body is very straight, with no body work or damage and the car is accident free. The door gaps on all three doors are very good, as are the gaps around the hood. The car has some minor rust in the areas that are typical for 240Zs (see pictures) but all structural areas and the rest of the car is rock solid.

Overall, this is a great project that would result in a very nice Z. I would keep it and restore it myself but I already have too many irons in the fire. So, in the interest of marital bliss and in the hopes that someone will buy this car and restore her back to her former glory, I offer her for sale here on Ebay. The car will have to be collected with a trailer. My schedule is somewhat flexible so I will be able to assist with loading. Please do not hesitate to email with any questions you may have and thanks for looking.
