I am providing as much information in this listing - sorry for the ramble. Feel free to call me with additional questions: Todd (410) 688-7794. For your inspection and viewing pleasure, the car is located in Baltimore, Maryland 21013 and listed on the free C listing service in Baltimore.
This 68' Mustang was purchased as my son's first car and we are realizing an older car is not in the cards. Turns out this may have been MY mid-life crisis car and really purchased for him! It runs fantastic and turns heads everywhere, but he just landed a real job with a farther commute. We have come to the conclusion that buying something with better fuel economy and potential reliability is a better choice since he will be driving to school, work, etc. Furthermore, to perpetuate the sale, I no longer have room in our garage due to our vacation house build that will take another 12 months to complete. Our garage is now full of furniture and fixtures leaving no room for a classic car. I would hate for this vehicle to sit out in the winter weather. She needs a nice new home!
Mechanically, the car runs so nice that I have not had to maintain. It has had a tune up including new spark plugs, oil filter and fresh oil change. I know the gas tank was recently replaced along with the fuel filter.
The engine runs strong and I believe it could be driven anywhere. Engine starts immediately every time. No valve tapping whatsoever, and has excellent power. There is a slight pin drop of oil coming from the area where the distributor meets the engine. There is never a puddle or drips on the ground, just a moist area with very slight oil spray onto the hood blowing from the fan. Basically, every once in a while, a paper towel is used to wipe off the spray.
Brakes are dual cylinder manual, that work fine.Dual exhaust seems to be fine as well with no apparent leaks. Automatic transmission seems excellent as well, no slipping, clunking, etc, shifts smooth.
Power steering works great. It currently has a leak from the power steering pressure HOSE. The hose will be replaced before this auction ends. It is currently dripping on the power steering bar as shown in one photo. This is an easy fix, was just discovered, and I have ordered the hose for replacement. I wanted to mention in case you were wondering why it is wet in that area.
The suspension seems fine and the ride does not pull to either side, but the front tires have inside wear. This is one project we had planned to do as a father/son thing. CJponyparts has a front suspension kit for $333.89 to replace most everything. Seems the ball joints, tie rods and rubber boots are worn & dry rotted causing the premature tire wear. The rear tires are fine and the rear suspension has gas shocks. I am not sure of the quality or brand of shocks, but the ride feels great and would not anticipate any issue or changes needed.
Rust you ask? Yes, there is rust under the vehicle, mainly around the torque boxes and framing. CJpony website (as you may know) has torque boxes ($39) and other replacement parts relatively inexpensive. This project may be beyond my skill-set since I have not owned or a historic vehicle since I was 22! It looks like floor panels were replaced / repaired at some point in the past. There are no holes into the interior from the floors or trunk, only minor pitting on the surface.
There is also some light surface rust on the chrome and some pitting at the bottom of the doors and fender. (see images) Some floor panels and trunk panels were replaced in the past when it was originally restored and painted.I am guessing the last restore was in 2002 since the drivers mirror shows the same date. The trunk and wheel wells do NOT have noticeable rust. The trunk looks very clean with minor surface rust under the carpet. The body does have filler in areas and some paint chips and rust bubbles. The vinyl top is extremely nice except where it meets the chrome at the top of the front windshield, it is ever so slightly lifted.
Interior is extremely nice and it appears to be the original black seats. No rips, No tears. The carpet is clean and has a nice dash. There is a center console with a roll-top face and seat belt holders. Everything works inside including the lights, horn, wipers, stereo, heater, blower and even the cigarette lighter. A/C was removed. The door panels look great. The high beam floor switch does need replacing and the door paint and rear seat side paint are slightly worn.
Original FoMoCo (4 total) are installed. There are also two 3-point seat belt mount bolts in the headliner if you wanted to add 3-point seat belts for safety. The headliner is near perfect as well as the dome light.
A very nice JVC stereo with tape deck and 4 Pioneer speakers are included that sound fantastic.
All doors, trunk, and hood open and close smooth. The front hood sits up about 1/4 inch which could easily be adjusted by the bolts. All hinges and latches work fine.
As far as I am aware, the chrome and stainless steel are original to the vehicle and are in good condition. The rear bumper does have some surface rust. The front bumper looks great but the left mount arm has rust. Some of the chrome and trim have light surface pitting.
NOTICE the RETRO artwork Etching on the rear and side windows!! Really Cool! The etchings make me think all of the glass is original to the car. Totally 70's Retro. The front windshield has smoke around the edges. All windows operate fine and close with no rain leaking. (I would not power wash) The left rear mini-window has mysteriously lost the rubber regulator roller and pops off the track when cranked. I ordered the roller and it should be replaced by auction end. I wanted to mention just in case the part does not fix the issue. The rubber on the car is a little aged and some has paint overspray, but all seem to work fine.
2 larger Crager rims on the rear and 2 smaller crager rims on front. The car has an amazing stance. There is a spare tire mounted in the trunk.
The Mustang is available for sale locally in Baltimore County, MD 21013 on the free C listing service in Baltimore. I reserve the right to end the auction at anytime if it sells locally in Maryland.

On Sep-30-16 at 19:18:18 PDT, seller added the following information:It was brought to my attention that this is NOT a true GT Mustang. It is a Coupe. A GT Mustang would have a J code, this has a C code. This car originally had a 289 engine and was replaced with the current 302 engine. Furthermore, the badges are not correct for a true GT model. Not trying to confuse or misrepresent. Please bid accordingly. Thanks.
