1932 Ford Roadster Description

Looking like it just rolled out of the Auto-Rama shows of the 1960s, this cool 1932 Ford roadster gives you the nostalgia of your childhood but the technology of today, making for a rod that does everything well. With only 5340 miles since it was finished, it's also still quite fresh, making it the perfect car to take to shows and events where you really want to get noticed. The paint is a modern Sherwin-Williams color called "Kiwi" but it's funky enough to recall the candy hues of the 1960s. It's modern two-stage urethane, so it's a lot more durable than vintage lacquer, and that Downs fiberglass bodywork underneath is tough enough to be used on a regular basis. Finish quality is impressive, with an awesome shine to the final finish, and if you know Downs, you know their bodies are some of the best in the business. The '32 grille shell is color-matched to the bodywork and fitted with both a stainless insert and a bug screen, perfect if your intent is to drive. There's custom pinstripe work on the hood and grille, which gives it a very finished look, and details like the big headlights, V-shaped spreader bar, and open hood sides make it look period perfect. Modern touches include the LED taillights, shaved hinges and door handles, and an ultra-smooth look. There's nothing vintage about the interior, which is luxurious state-of-the-art in open-air hot rodding. A custom bench adds legroom and head room (more on why that's important in a moment) and the beautiful caramel leather upholstery looks beautiful against the green paint. A wood-rimmed banjo steering wheel ups the luxury factor, as do the plush carpets and custom floor mats that add comfort. All the beautiful Dolphin gauges are fully operational, set into a beautiful billet instrument panel surrounded by more custom pinstripes. Add in the delicate linkage for the accelerator pedal, the Lokar shifter, and a tilt column, and it's a comfortable rod that looks like jewelry. And unlike many of its siblings, this '32 roadster includes a beautifully fitted black canvas convertible top for inclement weather. The trunk is also beautifully finished with a power actuator and custom interior panels with the Ford V8 logo on the bulkhead. For power, it uses a familiar GM crate 350 V8 rated at 290 horsepower, which is plenty in the featherweight roadster. It takes on a traditional look with finned valve covers and a matching air cleaner, and the block has been color-matched to the body for a great look. Most of the remaining hardware has been either polished or chrome plated, and with a Holley 4-barrel carburetor, electronic ignition system, and an electric fan, it's fast and reliable. The transmission is a TH350 3-speed automatic, also with its own polished pan, and there's a Ford 9-inch rear end with 3.00 gears inside, so it's an effortless cruiser. The chassis has been completely detailed and doesn't break any new ground, but the workmanship is exceptional. There's a dropped I-beam suspension with hairpins up front and a 4-link with coil-overs out back, so it rides and handles remarkably well, and with a disc brake at all four corners, stopping power is amazing. The stance is raked but not excessive, so it's friendly on regular roads and those custom chrome artillery wheels with staggered whitewall radials perfect the old-school look.A former magazine cover car and exceptional in every way that matters, this is a pro-built rod available for a fraction of the cost to build.
