1964 ½ / 1965 Mustang Coupe. This car came across the assembly line in San Jose California right when Ford was changing over to the 1965 Models. Mustang aficionados know that Ford released the Mustang 6 months early so as to have a 1 ½ year long production run (among other reasons). As such there were mostly minor differences when the production lines switched over at the true start of the remaining models for 1965. This Mustang is a true “half breed” with some of the 1965 feature “updates” and some of the 1964 holdovers. One key update is that this is an alternator car and not a generator car, which is a good thing. However, it has some 1964 identified features such as spare tire hold down design, center off position heater fan, and hood “skirts”, which in later production were all changed. This makes this Mustang one unique car from a historical perspective.
I have owned this low mileage car for over 20 years. After purchasing it in Santa Barbara, CA it has been pampered and maintained, with some restoration updates. Even though it is now in Virginia, it has never seen winter snow or salt and is completely rust free, without any repairs needed for such exposure. The interior has been updated to full deluxe options, with deluxe “Pony” seats and door panels along with new deluxe carpet and original moonstone material headliner, etc. From the interior stand point the work is very recent and it is like a brand new 1965 Mustang. It also includes original thick rubber logo embossed floor mats, front and rear.
Not to stop there, the exterior has been recently re-painted with original Ford Raven Black, along with new Black Vinyl Roof and new chrome where appropriate, Bumpers, Bumper Guards, Gas Cap, Mirrors (with a right hand mirror addition), etc. The addition of the new complete original style Fog Light option and bumper guards really sets off this lightly modified antique Mustang.
The original look AM-FM radio is a Custom Autosound Slidebar Classic Look, that actually has control for CD player and MP3 or Apple iTunes hook up with dual front (in original location under the dash) and dual rear (rear window standard location) high performance speakers. This radio/stereo provides great sound and current options while retaining the original look.
With the original “C” code 289-V8 and “blue dot” automatic transmission it has the best of the original running-gear options. I have upgraded the distributor to the Pertronix Electronic Ignition Ignitor so you never have to worry about points wearing out or gap issues. This Mustang starts right away first time every time and runs as smooth as if it always just had a tune up.
