1976 Ford Mustang Cobra Description
Okay, I don't know where to start. I want to try and keep this relatively short. My garage is full of toys, and I just bought a couple more, so something literally has to go. I tried listing one of my other cars that I was less attached to, but it did not sell, so despite the fact that I would rather not sell this one, it looks like I'll have to.
The car is a 1976 Ford Mustang Cobra II ( yes this is a real Cobra, not a clone ). I purchased this about 3 or 4 years ago, and have literally spent hundreds of hours restoring, rebuilding, and upgrading it. I am not going to try and individually list every item I have replaced, as it would take far more room than I have here. I have included a couple pics of the 5" high pile of receipts that documents my investment in the car, as well as a couple of prior owners. I'm pretty sure that if anyone took the time to add up all the receipts included that they would easily total $30k - $40k !This would be for all receipts included which probably go back at least a decade. In the last 3 or 4 years this is a brief summary of what I have done to it, and some of the parts/upgrades.Though much of the car was upgraded, I tried very hard to maintain the original exterior appearance of the car.
Starting with the interior :It was completely gutted, and the floors sealed with rust preventative paint. New carpet, new Pro Car seats which closely match the style of the original rear seat, new headliner.
Suspension : the car has been lowered 2" in the front, and 1" in the rear, which gives it a really nice stance.Nearlyevery steering/suspension component is new : frontcoil springs, upper & lower urethaneA arm bushings, all ball joints, wheelbearings, dropped spindles, perf shocks all around, sway bar bushings, rotors, calipers, allbrakes, outer tie rods, power steering rack, inner tie rods, steering shaft with stainless U-joints replacing the factory rag joint. In the rear a lowering block was added. The factory 8" rear was completely disassembled, and a new center section was added with a 4.10 locker.
Drivetrain : factory reman. short block with a 0.60 overbore, all new 351 heads which have been ported & polished, mild Summit Racing hydraulic cam/lifters, new double roller timing chain, new high volume oil pump,Edelbrock Performer intake, and matching carb. which both have Endurashine coating, chrome Edelbrock high volume fuel pump, stainless fuel line from pump togas tank, aluminum pulleys, chrome alt., polished aluminum MSD distributor, matching MSD 6AL digital spark box and coil, remote oil filter with chrome filter, polished alum. radiator cap & overflow bottle, much much more, chrome, stainless,& polished aluminum everywhere!
Exhaust : Hooker full length Headers with a really nice aluminum coating ( if I remember correctly, these cost around $800 ! ) 2 1/2" customexhaust with crossover pipe and Flowmaster mufflers. Nice polished alum.tips out the rear. This custom exhaust was a great deal of work due to the lack of room, and the fact that the gas tank is directly in its' path to the rear. All of this was done very professionally and it looks excellent. The exhaust had to be routed "under" the rear axle because of the fuel tank, but I'm sure you will be as surprised as I was at how neatly it was tucked up under the car, and really disappears even when viewed from the rear. Did I mention how incredible the exhaust sounds ?? Really deep throaty rumble at idle, and an angry growl under acceleration !
Body : as you can see in the pics., the underside of this car is extremely clean and solid ! the body is also extremely solid. the only rust I can see is a little spot behind the drivers side rear wheel/tire. It is almost unnoticeable, and has not changed a bit in the years I've owned the car. The paint is very presentable as a Cruise Night car, but would need to be re-painted for a show quality car. There are the normal parking lot dings here and there, but nothing noticeable unless you know where to look. The front fenders were rolled in order to fit the much larger than stock rubber.
Tires/Wheels : I installed a new set of tires and wheels that closely resemble the originals. The wheels are 15" x 7" ( I believe they are Ansi ? ) I do not have the tire dimensions in front of me right now, but they are clearly much larger than stock, and really look great ! I went with a slightlylarger rear diameter tire. They really fill the wheel wells and do not rub ( unless you tried really hard ).
Overall this is a really nice driver that wouldn't take much to make it a show car. It is extremely dependable &starts easily every time. All lights, wipers, heat defroster, tach, fuel gauge, and additional gaugepod, work as they should. The radio was working but stopped. I haven't bothered to look at it, but I'm guessing it's just a fuse. The only 2things on the car other than paint that I would consider addressing are : the 4.10 gears are a little steep for the 4 speed, but I was intending to eventually change to a 5 speed, and I think it would be perfect ( speedo is inaccurate but works ). The other item is, since after installing the dropped spindles the car seems to exhibit a littlebump steer. Really goes down a smooth road nice. I still have the original height spindles which can be included if desired.I've owned dozens of really nice high end cars, and to my amazement this gets more attention than any I can think of with the exception of my $75k9 second wheel pulling Pro Street Ranchero. I have literally never taking this car out without getting at least adozen waves, smiles, thumbs up, horn beeps, and a ton of questions and picture requests. If you do not like attention, this is not the car for you !!

On Dec-04-16 at 20:45:42 PST, seller added the following information:I just noticed in my pictures, that the first picture of the car shows it with a flat black front "chin spoiler". That pic was taken earlier this year, prior to my having the spoiler painted in the original gloss black with gold stripes. the 3rd picture shows the car with the chin spoiler painted as it is now. thanks & good luck !
