1951 Ford Custom "Shoebox" - Flathead V8 - Engine Runs - Project Car
1951 Ford Other Description
This is a fairly solid and complete 51 Ford Custom "Shoebox" 2 door sedan, Flathead V8 that has been off the road for a few years. I have just replaced the starter drive, installed new points, spark plugs and temporarily wired the engine only to start on 12 volt negative ground. The engine fires and runs as long as gasoline is fed into the carburetor. I did not use the gas tank as it probably needs cleaned. The oil in the engine is very clean. I did not hear any "knocks or rattles", did not let it run long. The transmission (standard 3 speed, no overdrive) appears to work in all gears and the clutch works. The car steers ok, the brakes do not work. Someone was restoring the car and installed tuck and roll upholstery on the seats and door panels and rear panels. It has no holes or tears and is very strong and usable. There is no headliner. The window regulators work and the windows roll up and down. The passenger side door window glass is broken (the only one broken). The frame is solid and the trunk floor is very solid (see picture). I have "stomped" on the floors and they seem solid but the rubber floor mat is glued to the floor and I haven't seen under it. I don't see any holes from underneath the car. The body is straight with some rust in the rocker panels and the lower left front fender. The car has some "donor" 14" wheels and tires but it does come with all the original 15" wheels and all the chrome (stainless) trim-- see pictures. The doors sag some and need new hinge pins and bushings (readily available at MAC's, etc.). There is no key for the ignition or the doors. Please be advised that this is a project car and will need work to put it back on the road, but it has a head start with a running flathead V8 engine, transmission and a good start on the interior. This car also comes with a clear TN title.
