1949 Shoebox. This is a running and driving project that is very solid. V8 Flathead 239 cid engine. Runs strong and very well. 3 speed manual shift on the steering column. Has overdrive but is not currently hooked up. Body and frame are very solid. Especially for New Hampshire. Brakes and wheel bearings serviced. Full tune up including cap, rotor, plugs, wires, points and condenser. Professionally rebuilt carb. Complete new wire harness front to back .Converted to 12 volt. Turn signals added to factory lights. Fuel tank cleaned and new front to back line run. New electric fuel pump and pressure regulator installed. Front door panels replaced with driver door glass. this vehicle is driven around locally and runs great.
What it needs: Charging system issues. I was going to replace the generator with a one wire alternator conversion. Wipers need to be converted to electric. Blower motor needs to be changed to 12 volt. Flasher needs to be replaced. Speedo inop. Fuel tank needs level sensor.Choke cable replaced. Interior needs carpeting, headliner, seats and rear door panels redone. Drivers seat has old vinyl cover and rear seat has a Mexican blanket. drivers floor was patched at some point and could stand being done better. Steering is loose. I have new tie rods not installed. I also haven't tried turning adjuster for slack in steering box. Transmission tailshaft seal drips.
This is a running and driving solid car. Perfect base to enjoy driving. Work on it in the off hours. Better than buying something, taking it apart and losing ambition only for it to be sold off after years of neglect. VERY SOLID. ORIGINAL DRIVETRAIN RUNS AND SHIFTS GREAT. This is an early 1st year shoebox that means lots of 49 only details. Very cool old cruiser that gets tons of looks. Come hear it start up first try and purr like a kitten.
