When it comes to choosing a platform car for modification by aftermarket manufacturers, few can hold a candle to the Ford Mustang. From the infamous Shelby American GT-series, to the later dealership offerings from Roush and Saleen, both firmly cemented in the automobile performance parts industry. Surprising to many, Saleen had been around since 1983 and spent much of it time and energy on prestigious tracks throughout the company competing in the Sport Car Club America Racing Championships using their Mustangs. With countless podium finishes that lead to three Manufacturing Championship wins, as well as Driver’s Championship win using drivers that included Parnelli Jones and Bob Bonderant, Saleen was no joke on the track and has a proven set of performance parts and knowledge behind their platform Mustangs. By 2000, Saleen competed in the inaugural Grand American Road Racing season where they captured the Drivers’ Championship, and clinched the Manufacturers’ and Team Championships during the final race of the season! The car offered here was there offering in 2001!

We are proud to showcase this gorgeous, one-owner 2001 Ford Mustang Saleen S281 Supercharger coupe finished in Zinc Yellow over Black leather interior! Showing just 15,658 pampered miles since new, this completely unmodified specimen is totally original down to the Pirelli P7000 tires still on the ground. Proving it has never been abused either! Under the hood Saleen provided a super-charged 4.6L SFI SOHC V8 producing 365 horsepower and 400 lb. ft. of torque, a short throw shifting 5-speed transmission, and stout 3.27 locking axle ratio! Options include Mach 460 audio system with 6-disc in dash radio, traction control, power windows & locks, power driver seat with adjustable lumbar, power mirrors, keyless remote entry, and cruise control with steering wheel controls.

The Saleen team contributions to unit #01-0238 include special body fascia & trim, 18” chrome 5-spoke wheels fitted with 255/35ZR18 front & 265/35ZR18 rear Pirelli Super Sport high speed tires, oversized front sway bar with polyurethane bushings, new Saleen RaceCraft Nitrogen filled shocks at all four corners, new rear springs, large Saleen brakes, Roots-style supercharger, an intercooler for the first time, aluminum intake manifold, 24 pound fuel injectors, and 2.5” stainless steel exhaust system all combined with custom in-house DME tuning! The result was a smooth idling engine that revved super aggressively through a 6,000rpm redline! Performance resulted in a 0-60 time of 4.9 seconds, and quarter mile at 13.4 seconds hitting the line at 107 mph! These are super stats that could hang with cars three times the cost! Our car represents 1 of only 243 Supercharged coupes built for 2001, but moreover one of only 5 with these exact colors/options!
