1997 Ford Aerostar XLT AWD 8-Seat Minivan - Local pickup only 11210 Brooklyn NY
1997 Ford Aerostar Description
1997 Ford Aerostar
I am only the second owner of this van, I have owned this van for 7 years, and have driven it about 100,000 happy miles in that time. It is a very comfortable workhorse, with a powerful engine and huge interior space.
I replaced the original Captains chairs with a bench seat, so it currently has 8 legal adult seats. The seats remove easily, and with no seats, it has a tremendous flat floor that can hold entire 4 X 8 sheets of plywood, etc... The 4.0 liter engine can haul all that you can load it up with. The seats fold down easily. Even with the seats up, the extended length has a huge trunk space behind the rear seat.
The good parts:
- The transmission was rebuilt by the previous (original) owner, just before I bought it. (He showed me the receipt.)
- The engine was partially rebuilt (valves, heads, gaskets, lifters, etc...) just two years ago.
- Many new parts in recent years - Power steering, water pump, brake cylinders, radiator
- All four pretty good tires, Alloy rims
- Much of the exhaust is new
- Electronic All Wheel Drive works great in the snow!
- Passed NY State Inspection last month. Sticker is good for another 11 months.
Everything else has been kept in good condition. Power windows, sliding door, power locks, Cassette Digital Radio, Cruise control, and everything else work well.
Never been in an accident. Overall body condition decent, as well as can be expected for it's mileage and age.
The not good news:
- As it has started getting old, more things have been breaking down. I fixed them each time, but finally decided that the next thing, no matter how small, will be the last thing I fix. The A/C has developed a leak, and though it works when filled up (I did that too,) it only lasts a few weeks. It might be a minor leak, easy to fix. Many of the A/C lines are also pretty new, as is the accumulator. But I am just not willing to try to fix it anymore.
- It drinks/consumes water. I have replaced many of the water hoses, and the water pump and radiator in recent months. Still I don't know where the water is going. It runs fine, Just add water regularly.
- It has a leak somewhere (possibly the main seal?) and leaks transmission fluid or oil. As long as you add some regularly, it runs fine. I have used it this way just fine for two years.
Ready to drive away.
