For sale is a 1998 4X4 GMC Sierra K2500 Pickup truck. This has done just under 160,000 miles and runs beautifully. It is an extended cab with the 8ft bed and the 5.7L V8 gasoline engine.
We bought this truck 4 months ago, from a young man in Las Vegas, to go on a road trip up the west coast (we have been visiting from Australia). We bought the truck with a bad transmission, which we have had fully rebuilt at a cost of $1800. This rebuilt transmission is under warranty for 12 months or 12,000 miles (approximately 10,000 miles have been travelled since). Given that one of the common major issues on these trucks is transmission failure, and this has now been dealt with, this truck is a good buy. Since the rebuild, we have driven approximately 10,000 miles over the last 3.5 months. The car has been well-maintained throughout this period. The air conditioning compressor had also failed when we bought the truck, and we have since replaced the compressor (second hand, but in good condition), accumulator and orifice tube. The AC system is subsequently in great shape and is icy cold (very useful in these winter months). We recently had the brake master cylinder replaced and the front pads are only 1,200 miles old. Other than that, there have been regular fluid and filter changes since the truck has been in our possession. It runs very well. Three tires (Kelly Safari TSR) are in decent shape with some tread left. The right front tire was replaced a couple of thousand miles ago due to sidewall damage we sustained on the road. It is a Corsa brand tire of some sort with a similar tread pattern to the other three. There is a spare tire which is in ok shape. The original jack and lug wrench are included. 4x4 works well when used; both high and low range have been used.
There are only two minor mechanical issues with the truck. Firstly, the park brake will sometimes not release properly, causing a resistance to take-off and a shudder. This could be due to a partially seized cable. It does release fully after driving for a short while and is probably an easy fix. We haven’t looked at it, as we haven’t been using the park brake. Secondly, a slight whirring noise sometimes comes from what I believe to be the power steering pump. There was a power steering fluid leak when we bought the truck, though this has been fixed. The power steering itself seems to work fine.
Cosmetically, it looks like a 20 year old truck. The body is in reasonably good condition, though there are a few dents here and there. There are a few spots where the paint has come off on the hood, and the tailgate is a bit battered. There are minor scratches across the body, some of which I think would buff out. Hinge pins have been recently replaced in the driver’s side door, so it closes as it should. Windows wind up and down (manually) as they should. The driver’s side regulator was replaced with a new unit when we bought the truck. The interior is in reasonably good condition, though the seat is torn in a few spots and could do with a thorough cleaning. Please see the pictures to get a good idea of the condition, as I’m sure I’ll forget to mention something here. Stereo works well and has an after-market JVC head-unit/CD player with AUX input. Front speakers were upgraded by previous owner to Pioneer units of some sort. There are rear speakers too, but I’m unsure of whether they are original or if they have been upgraded.
We have driven this truck from Las Vegas all over California and up the west coast, covering 10,000 miles in 3.5 months. We have done this while carrying a 1,500-1,800lb cabover truck camper and plenty of gear. The truck has handled it all without skipping a beat, including driving up plenty of steep and rough mountain roads. This has included extensive driving in temperatures around 100 degrees, and extensive driving in freezing temperatures. Given all this, the truck should serve any buyer well and should last a long time. Perfect work truck, or perfect truck for personal use.
Finally, regarding payment, collection, and inspections: We are returning home on the 26th of December. This truck absolutely needs to be collected and paid for by the 25th. If you are interested in having the truck shipped to you, then we can assist by dropping it off at whatever transport company you have organised. Please send us a message prior to bidding if you’d like to organise shipping. We are selling the car in Los Angeles, but are currently driving south from Seattle. As such, inspections and test drives will not be possible until the 22nd of December. Furthermore, TEST DRIVES AND INSPECTIONS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED. We are happy to allow professional pre-purchase vehicle inspections.
Title is clean, clear, and in hand.
Please send us a message if you have questions about the car.
