1999 Jaguar XJ -- Description

Hello and thank you for looking at my auction. My name is Joe and I sell vehicles differently than most dealers. Buying your next car or truck through one of my NO RESERVE auctions is the best way to take the games out of your next automotive purchase. I personally road test each vehicle before it is offered for sale so I can give you my first hand opinion of how it runs and drives. Please keep in mind that I am not a mechanic. Each vehicle is represented accurately and honestly to the best of my knowledge and ability. Please take the time to read this entire description as well as our Terms & Conditions carefully BEFORE asking questions or placing a bid as most answers can be found in at least one of those places. An administrative fee of $149 will be added to the final bid of each auction. Up for a NO RESERVE auction is a 1999 Jaguar XJ8. I would rate the exterior of this Jaguar to be in ABOVE AVERAGE CONDITION for it's age and mileage. As you can see, this is a good looking sedan. It is finished in Sapphire over Cashmere, which is a great color combination. The dark blue finish has a mile deep shine and looks as smooth as glass. As with any older vehicle, please expect a few flaws and imperfections commensurate with age and mileage. On this specific Jaguar, the worst I can say is that there are a few scrape marks on the rear bumper cover...nothing out of place for a vehicle of this age. What's even more noteworthy is that this Jaguar's paint shines well all around with no noticeable fading on the upward facing surfaces, which indicates that this Jag most likely spent her life in a garage. The body lines are nice and straight. The hood, doors and tail gate all open and close easily. All of the exterior trim and cladding are all present and show well. The chrome exterior accents shine well, as they should. All of the glass and lenses are intact. The factory alloy wheels show well and are wrapped in a matching set of Michelin's with average tread all around. Please take your time and check out each of the photo's carefully to see how clean this XJ8 came in. I would rate the interior of this Jaguar to be in AVERAGE CONDITION for it's age and mileage. The door panels are clean and tight. The dash and headliner are clean, too. In traditional Jaguar fashion, the headliner is beginning to sag a little in the rear. The carpets are full looking and show well throughout the interior. Both front seats are power operated and all four seats are heated. The power windows, locks, seats, mirrors and sunroof all work properly. Throughout the interior, the wood veneers show well and also hint that this was a garage kept car. Also in true Jaguar fashion, the leather cover to the cup holder is broken. It was in the car when it came in so you may be able to re-attach it...but these are rather well known to break. The audio system is original and sounds good through the factory speakers. The climate control system is fully automatic and appears to be working properly. It is too cold to be able to tell whether or not the air conditioner is working effectively but I can tell you that the heater works. The only other complaint about the interior is that the glovebox is broken...which falls under the aforementioned category of things in Jaguars that are known to break as they age. The trunk is spacious and clean. Again, please take your time and check out each of the photos carefully. Mechanically, this Jaguar appears to be in good running and driving condition. The 4.0L V8 starts easily and runs smoothly. I didn't notice any leaks. However, it does seem like the valve cover gaskets are leaking. The engine does not smoke. Her road manners are good for an older Jag. The suspension feels tight and well sorted. You can feel a little play in the bushings up front...so you'll probably be looking at freshening up the front end at some point, but nothing terrible. Steering and braking feel good. If you stand on the brakes pretty good at highway speed, you can feel a shimmy in them...but they stop the car fine. The engine keeps perfect temperature and feels strong. The ABS light stays on. There was a check engine light on for Bank 1 system lean and Bank 2 system lean. I cleared the codes and they haven't come back yet. There were no other codes, and I've seen these come on from simply running out of fuel...which is common in my line of work as nobody wants to put gas in their wholesale cars. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know so you don't feel blindsided if it does come back at some point in the future. The automatic transmission engages smoothly and shifts properly with no issues. Out on the highway, she drives nice and straight with no issues. This generation of XJ is getting hard to buy. More times than not, all that's left out there are perfect cream puffs that cost a fortune to buy and used up piles of junk that aren't worth the work they need to make them right. Finding a good "middle of the road" XJ that you can just drive is not as easy as it used to be. If you've been looking for one of these to simply drive and enjoy but don't want to pay a fortune for a low mile Sunday only church cruiser, this car deserves your serious consideration. It'll need a few odds and ends here and there but it's all things you can pick at when you want to. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding.
