1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport Description

Selling my 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport. Not in a rush to sell but wanted to test the market since Cherokees in excellent condition with low miles are becoming rare. I purchased this in May 2016 from the original owners who were in the mid-70's so this thing was well cared for and never abused. Perfect Jeep to customize but I wanted to get it back to stock. Since purchasing 10 months ago and 3200 miles ago I have spent $4300 in parts (and some professional mechanic time but most of the labor was my own - approximately 250 hours) and paid $3200 for the Jeep itself. All in I'm at about $7500 in the Jeep and have a few parts that aren't installed yet but will be included - wheel hubs, upgraded 4 port fuel injectors, O2 sensors, plugs and wires, passenger side window motor, rear quarter panels and rear shocks and bump stops. Wife is losing her job so some of my toys have to go - this Jeep and my 2015 Chrysler 200 which is also listed on eBay...I'm keeping my 2017 Silverado and 2016 Challenger. These are very gentle 112,000 miles and the 4WD works perfectly in Michigan winter this year when I've used it. Shifts are smooth and it is quiet driving down the road (of course Cherokees do make the typical drone of the bulletproof 4.0L and 4WD). There isn't a single drop of any fluid while driving, parked while engine is cold, or when engine is warm after driving. I couldn't believe how solid this Jeep was when I bought and it given the miles I stole it for $3200! I've driven it for a long weekend which was 360 miles round tripand Idrive it a couple days a week to work which is an76 mileround trip.Alot of sellers say you can "drive it anywhere" but I really haverelied on the Jeep to go on drivesof almost 400 miles with no worries. I have a record of every part I've installed since purchasing this last year along with the price and mileage/date it was installed. The pictures of the Jeep as red show the factory color and condition along with very minor rust spots I sanded and filled. The brown is the current color of the Jeep and show the wheels and tires I added. The brown is plasti-dip which is rubber-like paint which can be peeled off if you prefer the red. The plasti-dip does have spots that need touched up where tree sap got on the surface and can't be removed with bug/tar remover because it will eat away the plastic-dip too. The Jeep is nearly rust free except for a couple minor spots on the lower portions of the door and on the roof from water pooling in the low points. Not a lot of dent and dings given the age.
Positives (all of these repairs made within the last 3200 miles). I will include my spreadsheet that shows description, price, date/mileage when installed. This way you know exactly what has been replaced and that my numbers are accurate for how much I have into this Jeep:
-Added remote start (modern system and range is very good)-Spent about 10 hours and removed seats cleaning all carpets and seats -looks amazing-Not a single leak of any fluid-Cruise, 4WD, heat, AC, power windows/lock all function normally-Added new radio with Bluetooth and new speakers (Kicker and Polk)-Rewired driver door wiring harness to ensure every option works-Replaced clockspring - airbag light no illuminated, cruise and horn work-Replaced front shocks, swaybar links/bushings, lower control arms-Replaced thermostat, thermostat housing, coolant changed twice to ensure clean fluid-Replaced front pads, rotors and calipers-Replaced evap solenoid-Replaced water pump-Replaced coolant sensor-Replaced PCV valves and tubing-New fan relays-Replaced steering damper-New headlights-Replaced rear lift gate supports-LED lighting throughout interior (very modern look to a classic Jeep)-Replaced blend door and actuator-New Black Rock wheels with trail tires-Sunroof - functions properly-Replaced front and rear washer fluid pumps-Sanded and painted roof rack-New battery-Underbody coated with Eastwood rust convertor then Eastwood rust encapsulator and then finished with automotive flat black paint for a nicer finish.
I've replaced everything I've found that isn't functioning properly...all the way down to the latch on the center armrest that was loose. You can drive this thing with confidence as-is...or jack it up for offroading and just use this solid low mile Jeep as a good starting point.
I will describe every issue I am aware of with the Jeep but it is solid mechanically and I am not aware of any issues that would cause the engine, trans, drivetrain to need work anytime soon. I was replacing parts before things failed so most of what I describe will be optional or could be done after putting many more miles as-is.
-Passenger side window clicks once it is all the way up. It operates up and down with no problem. I will include the new window motor that should probably be replaced at some point. Very common with Cherokees.-Rear shocks appear to be original so at 112k could be replaced - I have the parts and will include. I don't notice anything driving with the rear end being sloppy so could drive a while on the current parts.-Upper ball joint on the driverside appears to bea bit dry and aging. That would probably be a repair I would personally have done within the next 6000 miles if I keep the Jeep.-There is a squeak in when making sharp left turn at very low speeds - ball joint could be causing this(?) -It has the normal squeaks and rattles over large bumps - common for Cherokees or really any vehicle with 100k+ miles - it is solid over bumps and suspension is tight, just a couple squeaks-Brake warning light is on - the previous owner said it came on a few years ago after the break lines were replaced. I had my mechanic look over the brake system because it's a safety issue so didn't want to just address it myself with a professional opinion. The brakes check out fine and I did replace pads, rotors and calipers in the front and had brake fluid flushed. Light could be small amount of air in the line or more likely a sensor somewhere. The Jeep stops better than my Cherokee I bought brand new in 1999 because I have Bosch premium brakes - not some cheap Auto store branded brakes.-Belt squeal when using AC for the first 30 second or so - the belt and tensioners are in good condition and I've tightened the belt. Known issue with Cherokees-Headliner is very dirty in spots. I've priced out replacing for $250 or could do it yourself for about $60. A project I haven't gotten to yet.-The 4WD doesn't always want to shift from Part-Time 4WD to 2WD so I usually drive in Full-Time 4WD if I can't get it into 2WD (don't drive in Part-Time 4WD unless road conditions warrant it because you can cause damage to suspension and wheels binding up)...there is the typical thump when in Part-Time which indicates the transfer case assembly is loose which is what engages each selection so I was planning on installing a new transfer case assembly. There was a recall on the Cherokees for this issue so it is common and parts were about $40 last I checked.-The Jeep is a faded red but still shines when polished. I did grind and fill a couple very minor surface rusting spots on the lower parts of the front doors. There is no rust on the rockers which is where rust first starts to form on Cherokees. -I plasti-dipped the whole Jeep "camo brown" because of the spots I filled and couldn't get a "factory red" that would match 17 years of fading. The plasti dip is peeling around the rear windows a little and on the top of the Jeep. There is some tree sap on the rear passengerside which I cant remove without taking off the plastidip. So visually you'd want to remove this area and apply new plastidip, remove all the plastidip and drive the Jeep as-is which isn't bad looking at all and much better than 95% of the rusted ugly Cherokees, or get a cheap paint job applied to make this thing really shine.-The rear quarter panels under the plastic bumper guards are rusted through...happens on every Jeep due to a design flaw with those bumper guards pooling water directly on the metal. Most people cut the quarters off and fold them for a more off-road look. I do have the replacement quarter panels to be welded on so a stock factory look but haven't gotten them welded on yet. You can't see any of the rust with the bumper guards installed - only know its there if you ever took them off.
Any questions please let me know. Prefer someone local who can come view and drive the Jeep given the age and type of vehicle. But will ship at buyers cost - I have accurately described everything I can think of but please ask questions before bidding if you want to know any more.
