2000 Land Rover Discovery Description

Want a a sweet deal?....If you are handy and slightly adventurous, this is just for you!
With only your labor and talent (needed parts are supplied,) you can have a super fun LR Disco II...and have very little in it!
HERE'S THE STORY:.
Bought this LR last year from a mom in the next town who had gotten it for her high school son---wrong car for any kid! Their local "dealer/mechanic" hosed them on everything from inspections to a not needed water pump, brake job and a poorly done alignment job. Found it advertised and gave her a decent price for it last year just to help her out.
I knew the truck would need a radiator as it was beginning to heat up and the heater was not functioning right - that was done about 6 months ago. No problems after that.
The LR needed very minor cosmetics - and the accessories worked fine. Did not drive it much (this is a fifth car.) Dual sunroofs. 1 works, 1 will not open.
About two weeks ago we decided to fit brand new front tires ($300+) we had bought(included with it,) have it properly aligned and update the expired inspection sticker. As we left for the tire store, the engine began to run rough at low speed and the check engine light came on flashing.
OBDII shows codes P1300, P0300, P0301, P0303, all indicative of a misfiresituation. We pulled it back into our garage and ran a full compression test (changed to new plugs at that same time,) Found very low compression on #1 and #3 cylinders only withcrosstalk between them. This is usually means a head gasket problem. There is no water in the oil or oil in the water as in many classic head gasket failures.
With plans to do this job ourselves, we bought Atlanttc British's best gasket set and all new correct head bolts ($200+,) which are supplied with the truck...unopened.
So there you have it... and here's where we are-----we simply do not have time to tackle this with summer coming, as we have lots of boat projects to attend to this spring.
This is a good old LR and should not take much $ at all to get right again. It definitely starts and runs but I would not suggest trying to drive it far, as new problems could develop.
