1996 Lexus SC400, No-Reserve
1996 Lexus SC Description
**I have had this listed twice and removed it for a buyer and then keep getting blown off once I do without them so much as looking at it. If you want it, I will not remove it from this listing until I get paid for it. I am also changing the format to buy it now to eliminate the back and forth. Whoever gives me the money first gets it. I am willing to consider reasonable offers, even trades.**
I bought this thinking I could put some work into it but I tend to bite off more than I should, at least where my time and effort come in. I drove it home (about 35 miles) and put it on jack-stands and checked it out, (The pics show it on jack-stands but it is not anymore). The interior is very nice for a 20yr old car. The front leather has recently been redone, the rear seats leather has the expected tears on the top of the backrest where the sun has been beating down on it. The engine is strong and no defects in the transmission were noted. The fuel tank/sending unit have also recently been replaced. The engine has recently been serviced as well. They replaced the rear tail lights with aftermarket and it comes with an extra set, (due to the car being rear ended and breaking the factory lights but the frame is sound). The starter was replaced and they gave me an extra one as well. I replaced the fuel filter before I was able to drive it home. The hood holds open on its own, (an issue usually).
Now for the bad, There is an electrical issue with the dash being intermittent. (The dash has the tendency to shut down for a couple seconds and then come back on almost immediately while driving but the car keeps running no problem). They also installed a start button wired directly to the starter, you turn the key on and push the button to start it, (this was a con for me, maybe not for you). The antenna does not go up or down. The driver side window does not go up or down. The window tint is peeling. The downstream O2 sensor has been snapped off. The trunk only opens with the key as the inside latch button doesn't work. The A/C seems to work fine but it is not cold. It needs a new serpentine belt as it squeaks on start up but then goes away. The trunk will not stay open on its own, (typical problem).
Again, I drove it home about 35 miles from purchase and though it died twice when I first started it, yet it ran fine the rest of the way, picking up speed easily, (I used the drive to test it out some). I think that the fact that I had to replace the fuel filter is part of the reason for it dying those two times, (Air in the lines).
I have looked it over and so far that is what I have found that needs to be noted. I don't have the desire to put more money or time into it. My loss is your gain if you don't mind putting in the time to go over the electrical in the dash, and fix the other issues I mentioned. The electrical is really where I capped out as I just don't want to get into it, this could be a simple fix or it could be a "cut and paste" using another wiring harness.
Personally, I just want to try to recoup some of the money I already have in it as we are moving out of state within the month and can't take it with us. I was hoping to have it running and on the road by then as a daily driver. I gave the lady $1500 for it when I bought it but truth is I just need it gone. The more my wife sees it the more upset she gets that I bought it when we've got moving and selling our house to deal with, (and now the car is up on jack-stands in the garage of the house we are showing in order to sell, not a good visual for potential buyers). Again, my loss is your gain.
While it does run, (as I mentioned I drove it home from buying it and it has started up fine the few times I have moved it in and out of the garage), I would recommend it be towed from here to your location due to the electrical.
It has a clear title.
*I have sold car parts and a car on EBAY previously and have a 100% feedback rating.*
