1971 Lincoln Mark Series Description

1971 Lincoln Continental Mark III

Just like the one in the movie "The French Connection". Except this one is for sale and you can buy it.

Great running and fully sorted car withonlyproper work done on it in the 3-1/2 years since I acquired it from northern California.I acquired the car because I was intrigued by the high back bucket seats and the sunroof and the design of the car. There are a lot of these cars out there but few that are in as good a working and cosmetic condition as this.

Drive train

Items replaced include: front suspension bushings, steering box, Ball joints, bearings and tie rod ends ( all Moog parts). Re-cored the radiator to help it keep cool with the working A/C (I livein Florida where A/C is a must).

Engine required a valve job which was professionally done.A neworiginal style carburetor, cam shaft, timing chain, water pump, distributorand fuel pumpwere installed at the same time.Engine blockshowed very little wear to the main bearings and piston rings and were, therefore, left undisturbed. Complete new dual exhaust including the replacement of the right side exhaust manifold. ( these tended to crack and the replacement is the upgraded version with a more robust casting). Car runs and pulls like a freight train and its hard not to chirp the tires pulling away from a stop. Transmission shifts very smoothly ( as a Lincoln should) with no slipping, noises or leaks. Recent transmission oil filte, and selectorshaft seals and linkage bushings assure safe selection of gears and firm retention of park setting. No oil burning and compression is evenat allthe pistons. Nothing about the car was wrong beyond the typical as I was to find out in conversations with and parts from the expertsLincolnland in Clearwater Florida where they specialize in these early Lincolns. These guys are a great source for both.

Records of all work andfactory servicemanualsare included with thecar.

Body and Trim

Sides and trunkwere painted to match the original and remove 40+ years of door dings andthe dealer installed rub strip which I thought really spoiled the design. Trunk was also painted and a newOEM top was installed. Sunroof works and closes fine. Trunk is very clean and complete with all panels, spare and tools.

New tires and complete brakes were done about 6 months ago. I did replace the original wheels with later model cast aluminum wheels that match the original turbine style wheel covers. And, though not original, the newer wheels still look appropriate to the car ( I think better)and mimicthe original wheel covers. Car tracks better and there is no vibration at speed or wobble from the original steel wheels.

Too Many little things fixed or done ( like the hood sound deadener panels) to list... Been a labor of love.

New inner and outer window fuzzies and driver's side door pullare in the trunk andshould be installed before sale.

Car runs and drives like new and I have truly enjoyed it and the attention and praise it receives as well as the reminders as to its more famous movie counterpart.......

Please enjoy the pictures.

Since last listing I've had numerous questions regarding the car. Here is a summary of FAQ's in hopes that it may be of help to you in bidding:

Pictures were taken in the fall around October when I first listed it.

Car does not have Cruise Control but does have tilt wheel.

Only rust I've found appeared after the rear and sides were painted in the right rear fender basejust behind the tire which appeared after the paint was completed. It is visible in the pictures. Has not progressed since.

New top required rust repair (minor at the base of the top where it meets the fender). Rust was ground out and surface was prepped prior to painting, small spot was welded in on the driver side.

Light coversfunction as they should but actuators do leak down and open overnight.

Original radio works but sounds 70's vintage. Speakers were all replaced with modern equivalents in prep for new radio in the glove box (not yet installed).

I am including all the spares I have for the car with the sale as it is the only Mark3I currently own but is the not the only one I've had.

Overhead warning lights all function as they should.

Window door seals (fuzzies) installed on driver door so far.

Car is sold as is where is.

Thank you for your interest.
