1982 Maserati Quattroporte Series 3 4.9 V-8 No Reserve
1982 Maserati Quattroporte Base Sedan 4-Door Description
This Quattroporte is the last of the hand built Maserati sedans. The body has had some paintwork in the past and is showing its age. The paint is still shiny but there are dings and small dents and some small areas of rot. It was in a plastic pole barn and it collapsed on it. The only damage from the collapse is a 4 inch crease on the roof over the drivers door and a one inch crease on top of the left front fender. There was a poor repair made to the bottom of the right front fender but it is small and easily rectified. Structurally the car is excellent and has no rot underneath. It's a little crusty around the edges but its not a rot box by any means. Please look at the pictures.
The interior is in Excellent shape and does not exhibit any major signs of wear in the seats door panels or dash board. It is all hand trimmed in leather with a hand sewn leather dashboard and beautifully done leather and burl through out the cabin. The rear package shelf and the headliner are the only things in the interior that need attention. The leather has shrunken on the rear deck and the headliner is saggingin the middle. Neither are desperate but they are worth mentioning. All the original switchgear is present and works. The windows are a little slow but they all function on their full ranges. There are no modifications to the interior and it retains it's factory radio. The interioris like sitting in an architects office in Milan in 1980. It is beautifully done and in really nice shape.
The engine in this thing is awesome. When a Corvette of the same era had 180hp this thing had 300hp. It's all supercar under the hood with a 4.9 liter double overhead cam V-8.Four twin choke Weber downdraft carbs and tubular headers from the factory. This is the same engine found in the Bora and Maserati Indy. It has a robustChrysler 727 Torqueflite 3 speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. We cleaned out the tank, put a new fuel pump and a set of wires on it and it fires up and runs. It maintains oil pressure when warm, does not overheat or make any bad noises. The engine runs pretty well but would benefit from a cleaning of the carburetors. They were overhauled before the car was put up and a simple cleaning should do the trick. I have driven it around the neighbor hood and the transmission shifts and works in all gears. It has a bad hard brake line on the right rear caliper and I have not repaired that. The brakes are almost non existent. There is a brand new master cylinder from a Pantera on there with the original reservoir. The exhaust is double walled construction with a layer of insulation between them. There are some holes and some old repairs on the exhaust system. Other than the rear exhaust box it's all easily bent up by your local custom exhaust guy and I think you can use the rear box after a repair or two.Ithas a rebuilt starter, alternator and a new battery. The cooling system, charging system and AC all function as they should but the hoses have not been replaced and should be before driving any distance. After all these years the AC still blows cold and is holding a charge? Odd for an Italiancar of this vintage.
