2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E55 AMG 4 Door Sedan Description

For sale is my 2005 Mercedes Benz E55 AMG, the legendary 469 horsepower supercar disguised as a luxury sedan. It is 100% original, bone stock and never modified, with 105k adult driven and meticulously maintained miles. This car is in excellent condition both mechanically and cosmetically, with a clean/clear title, clean CarFax/AutoCheck, non-smoker, for sale by a long-term owner.

History

This I purchased it in February 2011 with 48,746 miles Certified Pre-Owned from Mercedes Benz Manhattan, where it had been originally sold and maintained since new. This was important to me because MB Manhattan is the only dealership in the U.S.A owned and operated by Mercedes-Benz, so I was confident their technicians were among the best available.

I almost purchased it from MB Manhattan Certified Pre-Owned in early 2009 when it had 28,775 miles. Unfortunately, I waited too long and let it slip away, but only had to wait two more years, before getting another chance to purchase it. The car’s option sheet (MSRP $87,620)had everything I wanted and none of the more problematic options like dynamic seats and panoramic sunroof:

  • Brilliant Silver exterior
  • Charcoal leather interior with Black Maple Wood Trim, Alcantara Headliner and Harman/Kardon Sound System w/Dolby 5.1
  • Lighting Package ($1,200) with Bi-Xenon Active Light System and Headlamp Washing System
  • COMAND Navigation ($1,220)
  • 6-Disc CD Changer ($425)
  • Electronic Trunk Closer ($500)
  • Keyless-Go smart key system ($1,060) for unlocking, locking and starting the vehicle

Since I purchased a 2-year extension to the usual 12-month MB CPO warranty, this E55 AMG was covered under a factory warranty until February 21, 2014. Thanks to a very cooperative Service Advisor, I also have all the service records since day one (see picture)!

Maintenance

It addition to following the usual basic service intervals, this vehicle received any of the optional maintenance suggested by my Service Advisor (who also owned an E55 AMG). This includes the following major maintenance performed at MB Manhattan:

  • Two Front Struts Replaced (Sept 2013 @ 77k miles)
  • Alternator with Voltage Regulator (Dec 2013@ 79k miles)
  • HVAC Blower Motor (Jan 2014 @ 79.6k miles)
  • Rear Main Seal & Engine + Trans Mounts (Feb 2014 @ 80k miles)
  • New Mercedes Benz Windshield (Dec 2014 @ 88k miles)
  • New Gas Tank and Fuel Pump/Sender Unit (Nov 2016 @ 105k miles)

After the CPO warranty expired, I had the basic maintenance performed by my long-time independent mechanic who’s a Mercedes enthusiast, only uses OEM parts and is as finicky as me. The following major maintenance has been performed there:

  • Rear Rotors and Pads (May 2014 @ 82k miles)
  • All fluids flushed, including Trans, Brakes, Power Steering, Rear Diff (Dec 2014 @ 89k miles)
  • Left Front Wheel Hub and Bearings (Jun 2015 @ 94k miles)
  • Right Front Wheel Hub and Bearings (Sep 2015 @ 97k miles)
  • Front Rotors and Pads (Sep 2015 @ 97k miles)
  • Idler & Tensioner Pulleys, all belts + front crank seal (Aug 2016 @ 103k miles)
Condition

As stated above, this car is in excellent condition; all original / never modified, driven by middle-aged former banker. All the original manuals are included. This car even has the original tire changing kit, with the MB supplied gloves! Four sets of keys are available; the two originals and two newer models included when I purchased it.

As far as any flaws, there are very few and very small. I tried to take detailed photos to be as transparent as possible. I will try to do the same with the description.

  • Exterior: Beautiful, straight and nearly flawless. The only issues of any note, if you're picky like me, are the usual small rock chips on the hood, some scrapes on the rear bumper from careless NYC parking attendants, a tiny ding/dimple in the passenger front door that wouldn’t show in photos, a small rub mark by the left from wheel well, a scrape under the front spoiler and some curb rash on the wheels. All shown in pictures.
  • Interior: As close to showroom condition as an 11 year old car can be. The only exception is the driver’s seat, which has some slight fading on the outer bolster, wear on a small portion stitching and the COMMAND screen anti-glare coating is faded, as shown in pictures.
  • Mechanical: Engine runs amazingly strong and I frequently see 21+ mpg on the highway. Transmission is very responsive, with quick and smooth shifts. The MB airmatic suspension is comfortable and handles great!
  • Minor annoyances: Driver’s door keyless unlock feature fails intermittently; handle will likely need to be changed at some point. Passenger seat is sometimes sensitive to small weight being placed on it, such as a briefcase, which causes the seatbelt chime to ring. It hasn’t been bothersome enough for me to have a diagnostic check of the sensors, but it's something that might require attention in the future.

Summary

The supercharged E55 AMG was my dream car since it was introduce and I was thrilled in 2011 to find one covered by a CPO warranty! Since I usually change cars every few years, I only planned to keep it for the three years while it was under extended warranty. However, I couldn’t bring myself to part with it at that time. Now almost three years later, I’m still hesitant because I know I will never find another car with this combination of performance, comfort, luxury and sophistication for less than three times the price. That said, I’ve enjoyed the E55 AMG for nearly 6 years and it’s time to move on to scratch another itch. My hope is someone with the same passion for this amazing vehicle purchases it and treats it as well as I have.

The car is located in Bergen County, N.J. Prospective buyers are welcome to test drive it and have it inspected locally. Payment by official bank check / cashier's check (certified from US bank), money order or Cash (in person). Any questions, please email or text/call (201) 749-4456.

While I have tried to provide as complete and detailed a description as possible, please keep in mind this is an 11 year old vehicle. As such, there is no warranty and is being sold as-is.

Regarding AutoCheck Report: There are apparent errors in the report. Please note, this car has NO history of emissions issues and I GUARANTEE it will pass NJ State Inspection! As far as outstanding liens, the car was purchased from MB Manhattan in 2011 in a cash transaction. There are NO legitimate mechanics liens either. I have asked Experian to please correct or provide evidence of either noted "event".
