1975 Mercedes 280C, W114, M110 Two Door Coupe, Low Miles, w/ Sunroof, NO RESERVE
1975 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series Coupe Description
1975 Mercedes Benz w114 280C Two Door Coupe
I'm selling my beloved Mercedes. It has a clean Arizona title in my name. The car has 92,000 miles, maintenance booklet and papers included. It's about as novelty as it comes. You rarely, if ever, see these cars on the road, let alone in this driving condition.
It's the perfect balance of a daily dependable driver with a stock original, showcasing and highlighting the iconic lines of a two-door Mercedes by Paul Brauq. This car was made to be driven. Are you going to see it at Pebble beach? No. But boy will it get you there if you wanted to drive it.
Mechanically-Mechanically, the car is turnkey, and by that I mean it needs nothing to drive as it should. Silent from any rattling, it accelerates quickly and handles well. It's the perfect highway car riding 75mph on the highway. Good for a long weekend tour; anywhere. Take a quick run to the grocery store - no problem.
This car is a driver, and could easily be a dependable daily driver as is.It rides smooth, tracks very well, stops on a dime and is very dependable. When purchasing an older Benz, that's exactly what you want.
The Interior-This cars interior is just short of being perfect. The original dark mahogany MB Tex has held up outstanding. Its seats are supple, still holding a very comfortable full cushioning.
The seats - no wear or tear to be found on any of the seats except one small sliver of a tear on the side driver seat, less than a centimeter wide and half an inch wide goes unnoticed.
It comes with full options including power windows and sunroof that all run perfectly. The AC compressor is the original 8lb compressor. It blows but being that I never use it with the pillar-less windows and sunroof it would need a charge to be efficient. But all the working parts are there.
The original headliner is nice and tight, even after 41 years of feeling the breeze through its sunroof. The dark wood trim on the dash is free from any fading and has no cracks in the gloss.
The 41-year-old dash has always been covered, making it free from any cracks, other than the lines that run along the side of the speaker casing. This 41-year-old interior is as good as it gets for being all original. The car comes with a vintage Kenwood cassette player as well as another becker radio that's in a box.
The Exterior-The exterior color of the car is the original Dark Mercedes Tobacco Brown. It looks to have always had an exceptional coat of wax on it, and still polishes very well. The chrome is in good condition all around.
Being that the car is 41 years old and unrestored it's important to have a realistic take on how many years the cars been on the road. One can expect to find scratches and blemishes unseen from 10 feet away. The chassis itself is a very clean boned car - free from any major dents, or dings.
The car has no visible rust that breaks the paint other than one small bubble under the trunk hatch and another on the back passenger side. For those of you refined Mercedes enthusiasts looking for your perfect garage queen, this is not a contender as there is surface rust on the undercarriage that could easily be sandblasted if desired. All the rubber seals around the doors are supple and seem in good shape, not dried out at all.
The car exterior is a good 10 footer, turning heads everywhere it goes, but let's not forget, it's 41 years old, seen a lot of road - 92,000 miles to be exact. It has its fair share of realistic battle marks. One of those cars that you can drive and not worry about scratching, but regal enough to take anywhere and turn heads.
Future Work-The car currently has no mechanical maintenance needed to be road worthy. It runs great and is very dependable as is. I just had the single carb tuned. If I were to be keeping the car, I would have the undercarriage sandblasted and resprayed with a rubber protection. Touch up on a few of the small paint areas I mentioned above and she's golden. The trunk seal does need replacing as a piece recently tore off. I've purchased the new trunk seal, but have not installed yet. It's really up to the new owner to decide if you want to under go a full restore to make this a proper garage queen. I personally have thoroughly enjoyed the car for what is - a driver - with all its allure of originality.
