In theearly twothousands, Mercedes Benz decided to play a lil heavier......Introducing the Mercedes Bens SLR McLaren coupe, with just 19k miles and theappearance of a 5k mile car.The SLR features active aerodynamics; there is a spoiler mounted on the rear integral air brake flap. The spoiler increases downforce depending on its angle of elevation.

At a set speed, the spoiler/brake automatically raises to 10degrees (15degrees in the 722 edition), when demanded via the driver's switch, the elevation can be increased to 30degrees (35degrees in the 722 version) for increased rear downforce, at the cost of increased steady state drag.The SLR sports a 232kg (511lb) hand-built 5,439cc (5.439L; 331.9cuin), supercharged, all-aluminium, single overhead cam V8.Lysholm-type twin-screw superchargerTherotates at 23,000rpm and produces 0.9bar (13psi) of boost. The compressed air is then cooled via two intercoolers. The engine generates a maximum power of 626PS (460kW; 617hp. The engine is front-mid mounted. McLaren took the original concept car designed by Mercedes and moved the engine 1 metre (39.4in) behind the front bumper, and around 50 centimetres (19.7in) behind the front axle. They also optimised the design of the centre firewall.The SLR uses AMG SPEEDSHIFT Rfive-speed automatic transmission with three manual modes. For durability Mercedes selected a five-speed transmission rather than their seven-speed gearbox which was more complex and used more parts. The SLR coupe reaches60mph (97km/h) from a standstill in 3.5seconds. The 0 to 100mph (160km/h) sprint was achieved in 7.5seconds and a quarter mile run was completed in 11.5seconds at 126mph (203km/h)
