1993 Mercedes-Benz 300-Series 300CE Description
Giving this another shot; previous winning bidder changed his mind after realizing MB replacement parts aren't cheap and second chance bidder didn't have enough cash on hand. Please do NOT bid on this car unless you are ready and willing to pay every cent that you bid AND you are familiar with German cars.
This Mercedes-Benz 300CE (W124) has been in our family since it was originally purchased new in 1993. It was first my grandmother's car; my father inherited it after her passing in 2003, and it's been my daily driver since 2010. I'm married now and decided it's finally time for a family car, so sadly this beauty must go! Also in all honesty it needs some love, and Mercedes maintenance is just a bit too costly for what we have in store. I assume that anyone looking at this listing understands the patience and necessary funding to care for such a car, although of course you can save considerable money if you are an automotive god familiar with and confident in your German training. Even going on 24 years, it still drives like a tank and exudes that silly Mafia/yakuza/gangster rapper vibe from the early 90s.
This car was built at the peak of German (over)engineering, and I really hope some enthusiast or collector out there would find more value in this than if I just donated it to charity. It even comes with the OEM carphone and handsfree system, although this particular analog device will no longer connect to any cellular towers. I have both original keys and the owner's manual.
My memory has become a bit fuzzy over the years, but some of the upgrades I've done include:
- 18" AMG wheels (I got from a friend, they might be from a C63?) - I do not have the OEM rims
- H&R sport springs paired with Bilstein (if I remember correctly) shocks
- DEPO euro headlight conversion with HID bulbs (no high-beams)
- Full tint (slightly lighter in the front)
- Pioneer head unit with USB input and bluetooth (wireless mic installed in A-pillar liner)
- Kicker speakers
- Yakima rack, Q Towers, and wind deflector connected to roof rails (can easily be removed)
- Brand new all-weather floor mats (purchased January 2017)
Some other notes about the car:
- Replaced the a/c compressor in 2013
- Drove the car to Missouri and back in 2015 without any problems (except a tiny chip in front windshield)
- Passed California smog test on 1/31/17
- Oil change in January 2017 (regularly taken to MB specialist)
- Registered through December 2017
- Curbed rims and a few door dings, but never been in an accident
And of course you're probably more interested in the problems:
- Two front tires need replacement ASAP
- Transmission will go through gears, but won't downshift at times
- Harness may need replacement sooner rather than later
- Interior wood paneling has several cracks (will try to get a picture of this)
- Power antenna does not go up and down
- Driver side seatbelt extender functions, but is cracked
- One of the passenger side power seat knobs is missing
Please let me know what questions you have, what specific photos you want me to share, or any other concerns I might be able to address. Maybe I'll end up getting less than the paltry trade-in value that KBB lists for this car, but really I just want it to end up in the hands of someone who will appreciate its heritage, loyalty, and sophistication! Buyer must pick-up car in Mountain View, California.
