Ebay doesn't recognize imported VIN (WDB1070421A013660) so I had to put in 1980.
I have a low mileage 1985 European Mercedes Benz 280SL in the unique silver blue exterior with galaxy blue interior. Less than a handful of these European cars were imported in the U.S through Canada/Mexico, and this one particularly should be on the radar of all Mercedes lovers and collectors as the 280SL model was replaced from September 1985 with the then new 300 SL (i.e. the 1984/85 production year was the last for this model). The car has the classic R107 body but slightly lighter than the 380SL version made for the U.S. market and more fuel efficient due to the 6 cylinder engine (see pictures). There are also no reported engine problems ever with the European version vs. the 380SL.
The car was purchased in Miami, Florida a little over a year ago from the second owner who kept it in a garage for several years with the intentions of restoring it. Since then I have spent a lot of time with two certified Mercedes mechanics and over $7,500 in original OEM parts + labor restoring this beauty to its original glory look . I also have the data card and have registered the car with the Mercedes Benz Classic Car USA center in California. The body and the paint are in great shape for a 30 year-old car with virtually no rust (except a bit near the end of the exhaust line and a minor scratch on trunk). Otherwise, I haven't done anything structural.
What was replaced: brake master cylinder, brakes and brake pads, fuel lines, pump, service transmission (fluid, filter, gasket) + passed leak-down test, new battery, rubber hoses, belts, pads, spark plugs, rotors, lines, upper and lower arm bushings kits and ball joints, re-pack wheel bearings), re-charged AC.
I located a hard top for the car in navy blue color. It is from a 540SL so it actually has rear -window electric de-fog/icers. The soft-top can be seen in the pictures. It is two years-old and in great shape.
I have also purchased brand new tires ($450) in September - just not in these pictures.
I have receipts for all original parts and labor costs, and those will go with the new owner.
In addition, the engine was flushed and over-hauled at 87,000 miles. As a result, this beauty is in excellent driving condition and has been a total joy on the ~200-mile drive to the beach on a dozen weekends this past summer. The car has been garage kept.
The car also has a rare Mercedes toolkit set. Please ask for the videos of the car getting over 80 mph on the highway.
Compare this car vs. much more expensive 380SLs in the same color combination
I have enjoyed restoring and driving this car but I need to make room for my next project: 1972 200 series.
Serious inquiries/offers only. I have additional pictures.
