1979 Mercedes-Benz 280SL convertible / hardtop. Odometer shows 165,350 miles. Have bonded Texas title for the car. Car has automatic transmission, A/C (does not work), power steering and brakes, manual windows. Upholstery is the factory MB Tex (textured vinyl--looks like leather). Car has soft top as well as removable factory steel hardtop.
Left front fender has been damaged. Some replacement parts have been already purchased and they will go with the car, including a front U.S. bumper assembly. This car is not as common as the 107 chassis 300SL, 350SL, 380SL, 450SL, 500SL, or 560SL, but most of the body and interior parts will interchange. Because it is a six cylinder that translates to less weight over the front axle and many believe these handle better than their V-8 counterparts. Produced much smaller numbers (about10% of all R107s ever made) than the U.S. models, it is rare and certain to appreciate. When new, engine output was 185 hp but the car weighs about 200# lighter than a 450SL. Many believe the M110 engine was one of Mercedes' best gasoline engines as it rivaled the diesels in longevity.
Many more detailed photographs available upon request. Engine starts and idles, but has a miss. The car was parked for approximately 10 years and I removed the fuel tank, flushed everything, replaced the fuel pump, filter, return hose, etc. I am selling the car as I do not have the time nor the space to work. Personal vehicle inspection welcomed and recommended and car is located approximately 30 minutes south of Houston. Car cannot be driven home and buyer is responsible for all shipping arrangements.
Corrosion seems to be in the right rear trunk floor area, rocker panels, and small spot under the passenger side floor. Again, photos are available. Convertible top in decent condition with one small tear and a "yellowed" rear soft window. Questions welcomed and will be answered promptly.
