2001 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Description

For sale is my 2001 Mercedes Benz S430

Most importantly, pictures are part of the description of this vehicle. If it is not visible or unclear as to the condition of a certain item of interest, please ask and I will check. In other words assume nothing, just ask me and I will find out. All items that I have for this car are shown in the pictures - if it is not in the pictures, then I do not have it.

Car was purchased from Copart Auto Auctions on 6/27/2014 and has an Illinois Salvage title. Odometer reading is 97363 and to the best of my knowledge is accurate. I bought this car with the intention of using it as a base to do an S63 conversion with custom bodywork - my wife however has once again proven to me that I need to refocus and prioritize my free time into something more productive…like home maintenance.

Engine: Runs smooth with no abnormal noises however, it will need a few items such as the radiator, power steering pump (has a bent pulley), new belts, ect.. see pictures. Battery is good and as mentioned car starts on first try every time, regardless of weather. I can run the car for a few seconds only due to lack of coolant. I have one key FOB - works but internal key battery may be getting weak - need to be no more than 10 ft away for proper operation.

Transmission: Shifts into all gears and changes gears correctly.

Suspension: The left / right rear and right side front will lift and hold for a day or two but the left front shock is leaking air faster that the compressor can pump it and will not lift at all. Other than that suspension is fairly tight. All 4 rims are in nice shape with practically no curb rash but all 4 tires are poor.

Body: Is in poor shape - all door bottoms are basically gone (common issue caused by factory installed rubber/metal door bottom molding) rust is a major issue on basically all body components of this car. Rust on front fenders, all doors, rear quarter panels, ect. Surprisingly, the underside / undercarriage looks good as does the roof. Other body damage related to the accident is visible in photo's - hood and front end components. All airbags are intact; they did not go off on impact - as it was a high impact that missed all the structural components.

Glass: (all glass including doors and rear glass ) are laminated and none are cracked. Window regulators work when they want to and the left rear glass is off track - can be closed manually but has a tendency to slip back down (slowly)

Interior: Nice charcoal grey / dark leather interior. Carpets look good as does the headliner. Sunroof operates properly - rear retractable sunshade operates properly. Radio / GPS system are not operable for unknown reasons. Missing center console armrest cover.

Lights on the dash show air suspension failure - most likely related to the L/F shock leaking. Coolant light is on for obvious reasons.

There are quite a few issues with this car but if you are looking for interior or mechanical parts this could be a great deal for you. I am sure I missed a few items that will require attention so if you are interested in a specific item that I have not mentioned please contact me and I will check on it.

Car is currently sitting at my summer home in Crystal Lake, Illinois and can be viewed / inspected by appointment.
