How does a hand built 5.4 liter superchargedV8 pumping 602 horsepower and 696 ft-lbs of torque to the rear wheels sound? In a word, PHENOMENAL! This SL has been modernized and given a shot of steroids for lack of better wording. It improvesupon the original design, performance, and comfort in every way possible making a stock/original car look boring in comparison.
Up for sale is my stunning 2003 Mercedes Benz SL55 AMG with approximately 39,000 original miles. This is not your normal SL55 and is truly one of the best available. It has been adult/enthusiast owned, driven, and modified. Every singlefluid, filter, and maintenanceitem has just been gone through (see list below). This car is as fresh as the day it left the factory and there are no surprises with it. I urge you to compare this SL to others on the market as I guaranteethere aren't any others as nicely modified, well kept/clean, and with such a complete recent maintenancehistory.
A normal stock (2003-2006) SL55 makes 493 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. Because more is always better, I had to make a few small upgrades. The car now produces approximately 602 horsepower and a bone crushing 696 ft-lbs of torque at the flywheel/engine using a 19% correction factor for drivetrain loss through rear wheel drive and automatic transmission. On the dyno it made 511 horsepower and 585 ft-lbs of torque at the rear wheels (please message me if you need an explanation on how the dyno works). This is the kind of raw power that snaps your neck back and pins you to the seat. I did additional cooling modifications (additional heat exchanger and Pierburg high flow coolant pump) to deal with the new found power. The transmission software has been updated as well and now has the stock torque limiters removed along with faster shifting. This hand built supercharged V8 makes an incredible noise and makes top down driving thrilling. The immense torque curve of this engine means you have instant power anywhere in the power band. Check out the dyno chart, it’s above 500 torque at the wheels pretty much throughout the entire curve! The engine calibrationtune on this vehiclewas custom made for this car. It's not an off-the-shelf tune or a one size fits all. It was run multipletimes on the dyno and street making small adjustments each time until the power was maximized, response was smooth, and most of all safe.
This particular SL55 comes with a ton of factory options. The seats are heated/cooled along with a massaging feature. I have two sets of keys that work with the Keyless Go feature. You just leave the keys in your pocket, pull on the door handle, and push the start button on the gear selector. Another nice option is Distronic/Laser cruise control. There is a dial on within the center console that you can toggle that allows the vehicle to control the speed and braking by itself to follow the car in front of it. This option is great on long road trips.
The SL R230 Mercedes is undoubtedly beautiful and timeless in it's stock form. However, a few tasteful visual upgrades enhances that beauty whilst giving it a modern touch at the same time. Large 20" concave gunmetal wheels give the car an incredibly aggressive stance along with a lowered suspension. The carbon fiber SL63 spoiler and clear brake light give it a nice touch. Perhaps my favorite exterior modification is the full carbon fiber lower diffuser on the rear bumper.
The outdated wood trimmed interior has been upgraded with a hydro-dipped carbon fiber pattern and high gloss finish. If you're a true audiophile, you'll appreciate the HiFi Bose bluetooth streaming device and Clarion equalizer that I've installed. You can stream HiFi music from your phone's storage or from services such as Tidal. The audio outputted by the Bose sound system sounds great and has much more adjustabilityover the stock system. The new audio accessories are neatly installed into the top of the glovebox with no wires showing.I've also added a Micro USB (QuickCharge 3.0) and Apple Lightning charging cable routed into the center console armrest.
Maintenance on the vehicle is up to dare and needs absolutely nothing. All fluids, filters, plugs, etc have just been changed. You will be starting with a clean slate in regard to maintenance history. Please see below for the full maintenance history that has just been completed.
All in all, I genuinely believe that this is one of the nicest SL55's on the market right now. You know what you're buying with this car with a full maintenance suite that has just been completed. The performance modifications make the car more visceral without sacrificing the luxury that is provided by Mercedes. You certainly can buy a cheaper car with no modifications and no maintenance history. However, you will easily end up spending more just to get a car that probably won’t be as nice in the long run.
