1949 Mercury Other Deluxe Eight Coupe – Custom Chopped Description

1949 Mercury Deluxe Eight Coupe - Custom Chopped

Merc custom with professional 4″ chopped roof, custom rear quarters with smaller skirts, front fender moldings, air ride suspension, custom bumpers, Corvette grill, Dodge wheel covers, power windows, tilt, and so much more!! Beautiful paint with ghost flames! Just Awesome!

By far one of the most sought after vehicles among professional customizers since they hit showrooms, the 1949-1951 Mercury Eight Coupe. It was known that legendary customizers like Sam and George Barris chopped near new examples and immediately made them famous forever! Today, clubs organizations are individually centered on a custom Mercury culture. After having this particular Mercury within our grasp these last few weeks, we can easily see why!

We couldn’t be more excited to offer this 1949 Mercury Eight Coupe that has been professionally restored in proper custom fashion by a Detroit, MI body shop owner. Starting with a proper platform vehicle, it was treated to every trick in the book to bring utterly outstanding results! These include a 4” chop to the roofline, rounding of the hood, upper door, and trunk edges; incorporating a later generation 1953 Mercury rear quarter panel moldings progressing the bodylines outward along with four chrome spear accents and smaller 1955 Ford fender skirts! The front fenders received decorative custom moldings across the fender leading into the door! Totally one of kind! The gas tank lid, door handles, trunk equipment, hood ornament, and body side trim were all shaved for a super clean, sculpted look! The lower window stainless steel was extended further into the rear portion of the trunk lid, while the headlights were frenched along with the tail lights being relocated lower in the rear quarter panel, also frenched using 1950 Ford lenses. Once the body work and been massaged and leaded in true fashion, it was painted a Candy Purple Metallic that looks amazing under the sun! The front end was highlighted with silver pearl ghost flames while the roof has a subtle added sparkle as if it were immolating stars in the sky!

Additional features include a powerful 460ci Lincoln Continental V8 engine mated to a C6 automatic transmission and Ford 9” rear axle. The front grill is super unique fitted with a 1954-55 Chevrolet Corvette unit, along with the front pillars with dual bullet spot lamps, dual outside door mirrors, polished 1957 Dodge Lancer hubcaps, and dual front and rear Kaiser bumper guards professionally mated to the original bumpers! The effect is outstanding, especially the rear allowing the dual resonating exhaust to port directly through the guards themselves! The doors and trunk are fitted with electronic door poppers for easy access! The door windows are now power operated by using the original cranks in a simple up and down movement; very trick! Under the hood, the show continues with a custom fabricated steel radiator cover, Cadillac air filter housing, chrome tubular upper & lower control arms, and extended fender covers all hand-painted with perfect Von Dutch style pinstripes throughout!

The interior may be one of the most comfortable you will have the opportunity to enjoy to any car show! Using Thunderbird bucket seats, you will find the armrests on the door panels and the custom matching center console a perfect match to settle into the driver position! The gauges respond to the engine and rear axle with perfect readings. The speedometer calibrated to the exact mph, and all vitals telling the driver all is well in all environments, city or highway! Power eases to the ground without falter depending on how heavy your foot feels that day. A tilt column, Cadillac steering wheel, and power rack & pinon steering system allows you to steer with two fingers. And power, ventilated front disc brakes bring this Sled to a stop without any hesitation! Should you find your destination, depress the air bags and watch the body lay down evenly on the ground for spectators to admire. It will instantly be in driving position again within seconds when time to leave. Buy with confidence, we’ve already added over 180 miles to the odometer since its arrival! No disappointments with this one! Call with questions or to schedule a viewing appointment!
