1986 Mercury Capri Description
Very rare 1986 ASC McLaren coupe #49, white with orange sunburst striping package. Car is 1 of 34 white coupes made in 1986, a total of 114 ASC McLaren coupes were made in 1986. The white ones are in my opinion the most sought after fox body cars.
I’ve put about 20k into parts, the suspension is 2 years old with ~1000 miles from maximum motorsports and the car handles like a dream, it could autocross or do high performance driving events. Started with maximum motorsports road and track package but added torque arm and other items so it’s now closer to their maximum grip package. Besides torque arm, has full length subframe connector, panhard bar, strut tower brace, solid steering shaft etc etc. The suspension was installed professionally by realspeed in NY, they’re experts on fox body mustangs and road race them (they won the American iron series this year).
I’ve upgraded the front brakes, converted rear drums to disk brakes as well. Front end has all new control arms / coilovers / spindles / bushings etc.
New fuel tank, 255lph pump, new fuel rails, adjustable Aeromotive fuel pressure regulator and bbk liquid filled guage. Have new fuel lines but they’re in a box, not installed.
Drivetrain has aluminum drive shaft, heavy duty centerforce clutch, upgraded transmission to ford racing T5Z, new 373 rear end gears installed. Original transmission is available if desired to maintain numbers matching.
86 5.0 has speed density electronics stock, upgraged to mass air like 88 and after 5.0 with original rare ford racing mass air conversion kit. Has new BBK mass air meter, throttle body and upgraded from 19lb to 24lb fuel injectors and cold air intake. Includes RPM performer 2 upper intake manifold "black out" edition. Car was dyno tuned and has a custom chip for 93 octane gas, can be reflashed to a different option. Car has BBK long tube ceramic headers, H pipe and custom exhaust connecting to stainless Flowmaster pipes on the back and NO emissions. I've included a video to hear it idle. Ultimately the car has all the supporting mods to put a stroker short block, but currently has the stock 86 engine from heads down.
Engine has new radiator, belts, hoses, new starter, new sensors (temp, low oil etc), new water pump.
Have a brand new AC kit & heater core for the car in the box not installed. Currently no AC connected.
Has new kenwood cd player with Bluetooth. I have 2 original working alpine’s correct for the car which are included. Also have a brand new correct air horn set for the car. Will also include new ford seatbelts and a bunch of other spares.
Bought the car from Hank in Florida who ownsascmclaren.com. This car was originally a texas car and was in a field left for dead. He picked it up from texas and cleaned it up, including painting the car. The paint job looks great from 10 feet away but has minor imperfections. I had planned to repaint the car as I'm a perfectionist and purchased a orange sticker set from him which will be included. I've included images of the car's condition 10 years ago when pulled form the field.
I also have a spare hood (current one has a small crack in a support on the inside which annoyed me). I have a new “header panel” which is the plastic piece in the front end which holds the headslight and grill together. The current one has a small crack in it. It was not in an accident but somebody connected a chain to tow it improperly to the radiator support and around the header panel at some point. Probably when it was in texas and left for dead in a field.
Car has a clear, New York title where it was last registered in 2015, however I moved to California and car is currently in storage and not registered as it has no emissions. If sold to someone in California car is sold as is as an offroad vehicle. Currently has roughly 63k miles (in storage off site, can't check exact #) and is a head turner as is, a blast to drive and carve corners. Sounds amazing, reliable and fun. Will make a great summer cruiser, autocross car as is, built as a handling driver, not a show car.
SHIPPING: Due to suspension / torque arm setup, the car will not load on a standard car transporter and will need to be trailored or using an enclosed trailer service like Intercity lines.
