2001 Oldsmobile Silhouette Premiere Mini Passenger Van 4-Door 3.4L
2001 Oldsmobile Silhouette Premiere Mini Passenger Van 4-Door Description
2001 Silhouette Premiere (top trim level) 3.4L V6 4-speed Automatic (1GHDX13E21D309189) for sale.
Very comfortable and dependable minivan that I hate to sell, but I'm just not using it enough and don't want to risk having an aging vehicle just sit. This was my daily driver through October when I bought a newer car and started splitting time between the vehicles. I've continued to drive the van because it's so much more comfortable than my new car. The captain seats are the best! However, my registration renewal is coming up and it's time to sell.
For the age of this vehicle, it is in great shape aesthetically and functionally (especially compared to the minivans I've seen on CL). Most of the mileage I didn't put on the vehicle (I purchased it high-mileage six-years ago). I've never had the vehicle break down on me. The A/C and heat works terrific (that's a requirement for me!). This is the Premiere edition, so electric windows and seats which work. Radio sounds good. Vehicle looks good aside from some minor body damage (almost no rust). The interior is not detailed, but fairly clean and seats are in great shape overall. Integrated Homelink works (for garage door), fog lights, heated front seats, backseat entertainment center LCD is driven by a VCR (this could possibly be replaced by a DVD player).
I don't believe in selling vehicles without full disclosure of everything I know (especially if this could be a Mom buying and transporting children), so I offer the following list of everything that is "wrong" with the vehicle that is known to me:
1) The power sliding door stopped working. The actuator seems to work, but I'm guessing the door motor needs replacement. Door still opens of course, just manually.
2) The driver's side seat lower plastic is broken as seen in pic and there is a little seat wear.
3) There might be a CV-joint going bad, not sure as it's been intermittent noise when turning sometimes. From past vehicles, I know this may mean a CV-joint wearing out which is a minor replacement.
4) The ABS unit stopped working, which is difficult to get to in this engine compartment and simply is not worth the repair on this year vehicle. This means anti-lock brake system warning will be on, and that triggers the TRAC system to not engage (similar idea, pump brakes for extra traction), so a Christmas tree of lights, but it's all from one issue. So you won't have the additional safety of ABS.
5) The service engine light is lit because this vehicle is setup for Massachusetts emissions.
6) The CD player the last time I used it about 3-months ago wanted to keep rejecting my CD. Could be the CD was scratched, but it also felt like to me like the CD-mechanism worn out. I'd probably try to avoid CD's unless you want to invest time into replacing the CD player. Radio works great though!
7) The vehicle has a lot of small dents which I tried to catch in pictures. This is from the vehicle being parked in my driveway under hickory trees and a many, many falling hickory nuts. It's something I eventually learned to live with as it couldn't be avoided. Doesn't look terrible to me, but could bother some people. It hasn't lead to any other issues (cosmetic only).
8) Almost no rust, but some bubbled paint above the front grill. However, it hasn't' bubbled anymore over the past two-years. I don't get what's going on in that spot, but it's not changing so maybe you'll be okay for the life of the vehicle.
9) For some reason the power steering motor is whining after a high-pressure power steering hose was replaced six-months ago. Could be air in the system, but there are no leaks and steering works fine.
10) The driver's side floor recently got some water stains because I had the windshield replaced and they left a small hole in the seal. By the time they came back, some water had pooled beneath my floor mats which are thick, so I didn't notice and it stained. This would require a steam cleaning if you can't live with it. I could have gotten a free spot cleaning, but for me it was more time than it was worth.
I'll leave off with some more positives:
New cabin air filter, new windshield with absolutely no leaks, new windshield driver wiper arm, new premium wiper blades (both front and back), premium super thick custom floor mats throughout ($150 alone), newer headlight housings (this is why they aren't cloudy like similar year vehicles), new brake lines from ABS to back, new high-pressure power steering hose, new battery (six-months). new water pump, recent coolant and automatic transmission flush, and oil change (although that's been six-months, have put very few miles on it since, but due to time you may want to get oil changed before a lot of new driving). Lastly, you get a full tank of gas (estimated value $40)!
Vehicle is available for test drive / viewing.
