1957 Studebaker President Classic Description

Available for bid is a 1957 STUDEBAKER PRESIDENT CLASSIC 4 DOOR SEDAN - Same owner for the last 25 years.
This Studebaker was purchased in Michigan and was originally from Texas.
I have partially restored the vehicle as outlined below in the description. I believe that I am the 4th owner of the vehicle.

Approximately 4000 1957 Studebaker President Classics were produced and they are becoming increasingly more rare. Here is your opportunity to obtain a fine solid example for your collection and or continued restoration.

I drove this vehicle in the Detroit area's famous Woodward Dream Cruise from 1995 to 2011 and would like to share it with another Studebaker fan.

It features a(n):

• 289 cu. in. V8 4 barrel carb and dual exhaust
• automatic transmission
• manual steering and brakes
• push-button am radio and clock

My restoration activities from 1992 - 1995 included (Body Off Frame):

BRAKES

• new master cylinder and rebuilt wheel cylinders
• all new steel brake lines and brake hoses
• new emergency brake cable assembly
• new brake shoe linings and hardware

CHASSIS

• 4 new shocks & 2 new universal joints
• new center link steering bearings
• tie rod ends checked (ok)
• some new upper control arm outer bushings
• new front sway bar rubber bushings
• rear end was checked (ok)
• transmission was checked (ok)
• fuel tank checked (ok)

ENGINE

• heads rebuilt valves ground new seals
• crank shaft reground .010 under
• new main bearings and rod bearings
• pistons/wrist pins checked (good)
• new piston rings installed
• cylinders honed (standard bore)
• new fiber timing gear installed
• new freeze plugs installed
• new water pump and coolant hoses installed
• new front and rear motor mounts
• carburetor rebuilt new fuel pump
• new fuel lines to gas tank
• rebuilt starter drive

BODY

• new front center grille and outer grilles
• new front grille surround chrome on hood and fenders
• one new tail light right side housing
• new rubber door seals, trunk seal, and cowl seal installed
• new cat whiskers, glass channels, and front vent window seals
• new tinted glass on 4 doors
• new windshield and rear window rubber seals

ELECTRICAL

• all new wiring harness in body, dash panel and engine compartment
• some new lamp sockets and sealed beam headlamp sockets
• new parking lamps, tail lamps, head lamps and instrument gauge lamps
• new horn switch, horn relay, ignition coil, voltage regulator and ballast resistor

New tires and front-end alignment 1998

The vehicle condition today : Needs body work and new paint. Please note: Because die-casting chrome pieces back then where not the best quality (gaseous), some chrome has pitting and shorter life expectancy. Most of the new parts I purchased from Studebaker in South Bend have deteriorated and show pitting from age. My car has only been driven in good weather, and to events in my area and has less than 1000 miles on it since 1992. When I purchased the vehicle in the early 1990s, the speedometer showed 58k and was broken. The right rear lower trunk area and outer quarter panel show Bondo work. The rear door on drivers side has a cracked window and the windshield has a small crack on the passenger side lower wrap around area. The under-the-seat heater has been bypassed because of a small leak. The front and rear seats were upgraded to newer velour power seats and newer seat belts were also installed. Both the seats and the belts were from a Buick Regal.

Due to the age of the tires I highly suggest a trailer or tow-bar for transport to its new home.
