1974.5 MGB GT 4.2ltr Rover V8 with Rover 5 Speed
1974 MG MGB Description
One of a kind MGB GTHere’s the story behind this particular MGB GT…it was custom-made for the co-owner of MGBClassics who spared no expense in its restoration. He wanted the big Rover 4.2 V8 engine (instead of the 3.9), the Vince Longo custom genuine leather interior, specific wheels, the unique pewter paint, and the conversion back to chrome bumpers/grille. While deployed to a yearlong tour in Afghanistan, he was able to locate the wheels in England. They’re from a Scimitar Reliant – another British car from the same time period – and have the advantage of being 1-inch wider than the original Dunlop V8 wheels (while essentially looking identical). The wheels were picked up and stored by his friend (a British Royal Marine who he served with on his first yearlong tour in Afghanistan) in SW England, and then mailed to him at his follow-on tour in Germany. They finally ended up at MGBClassics. Due to his multiple back-to-back overseas assignments, he’s unable to take possession of this beautiful car.
It is a 1974.5 MGB GT converted to a 4.2 liter Rover V8 with a Rover 5-Speed Transmission. This MGB GT is absolutely stunning in every way and is certainly one of a kind. In addition to being very powerful, it has a very quiet V8 rumble and is very comfortable to drive. The 4.2-liter engine was rebuilt from top to bottom with all new parts. The Rover 5-Speed shifts smoothly (has had plastic oil pump gear replaced with heavy duty metal version) and also has a Heavy Duty Driveshaft.
The exterior is painted Pewter Metallic Silver Base Coat/Clear Coat (UV Protected) which is the original color found on the European 1980 MGB GT Limited Editions. This custom handmade Black Leather interior with Silver Metallic piping is truly one of a kind and can only be found at MGBClassics. Front seats are heated with switches conveniently located on the radio console. All interior pieces match, including: Shift Boot, Center Arm Console Lid (which has extra padding for extra elbow comfort!) along with the rear Leather Seat. This specially made interior is extremely plush and luxurious and VERY comfortable. The engine compartment is absolutely stunning and extremely detailed. New King Pins/axles and all bushings are replaced with V8 a-arm bushings installed. It has a Tourist Trophy Sport Stainless Steel Exhaust System mated up to the MG RV8 Headers. It has a Tourist Trophy extra thick Wooden Sport Steering Wheel, leather wrapped “MG” shift knob, modern AM/FM/MP3/CD Pioneer Stereo, and the dashboard has also been restored (no dashboard top covers here, this is a very time consuming job!). The new Clutch Pressure Plate and resurfaced Flywheel have been balanced together. It has an Edelbrock 500 4 brl Electric Choke Carburetor and Edelbrock Performer Intake Manifold. Attention to detail will be found throughout this restored MGB GT. This is a stunning restoration that’s one of a kind only to be found here at MGBClassics – complete with a custom MGBClassics-designed/Made in England Solid Brass No. 14 ID Badge. This GT is a real show winner and an absolute joy to drive.
