1972 MG MGB Description

This car was started as a Sebring project and is complete but disassembled. Hip replacement surgery intervened and completion is not possible for me.

The car needs reassembly and finishing work and is an ideal Sebring winter project for the MGB enthusiast with mechanical skills (or access to them) and a facility for finishing.

A brief description of the car:

The body shell is a 1972 GT model, disassembled, bead blasted, fully primed and protected. The engine bay was painted in epoxy coat. Sebring flares were fabricated in metal and a couple of metal panels let into bodywork where necessary though the shell was an amazingly sound and clean example to start out with. Twin Monza style filler recesses were fabricated, again in metal, each side of rear quarter panels to take Monza oversize racing filler caps. A modified steel MGB hood comes with car to give clearance for V8 engine. An MGC aluminum hood with exhaust vents is also an available extra. ( See photos of car with both hoods). Metal exhaust vents were let into front wings. A Sebring front valance with ducts for air and fog lights comes with car. Rear Sebring valance.

The engine is '93 Ford Cobra V8 302, Cobra heads, roller rockers and mild E303 cam. Freshly painted and ready to go. Approx 300 HP available. Engine issecured inwheeled, engine stand and can be easily moved around.

Ford T5 manual transmission with 8.8 Ford rear, SN95, 373 gears, posi rebuild.

New 15x8 Enkie type wheels and rubber. New Minilite typerims available as extra.

New wiring harness and rubbers to glass. 4 point roll bar installed. New aluminum radiator.

Really too much to list adequately. All work done so far by premier people in the field - much of it done by HRE Motorcars of Freeport, probably the best Cobra and exotics specialists on the east coast. There are 2 photos of the MG outside HRE with one of their Cobras.

Much money (about $18K) has gone into the car already but as a project sale I am looking for much less than that and there is a modest reserve to include sale of the car as a rolling body shell with wheels, separate engine, transmission, rear end, glass and rubbers, aluminum radiator, wiring harness, original seats and steering wheel, new engine turned dash and facia.

Available as extras and negotiable price :

Full gray leather interior with leather bucket seats and side panels etc.

MGB wood rimmed steering wheel.

New MGB Grille with cut outs for new traditional twin MGB foglights.

Twin mini fog/driving lights for front valence.

Twin aluminum Monza hinged filler caps.

Konig Minilite Rewindrims.

Sebring headlight covers.

MGC GT light weight aluminum hood.
