Triumph ‘Spit-six’ 1972
Incredible project to create a smooth, powerful six cylinder Spitfire roadster
Restored to absolute show winning condition….rust free body/chassis, show quality exterior/paint and similar leather interior. Really exquisite and the photos barely show the incredible attention to detail.
Rebuilt GT6 six cylinder engine, GT6 transmission, freshly rebuilt 3.27 differential (replacing the car’s original 3.89 diff)….result is like having a five speed without 1st gear yet, of course, this car is so light and the 2 liter engine has so much torque, the overall result is a perfectly balanced drive train.
And the rest? New 15” Minilite style alloy wheels with new Dunlop 195/50 radial tires. Perfectly detailed ‘underneath’ and same with dash, trunk, and especially the engine compartment. Which appears similar to a brand new car. Nearly every nut and bolt being new, every key component….brand new carbs, master cylinders, hood latches, wiring, electrics, washer bottle, control arms, calipers, brake metal and flex lines, the list is near endless. Literally ‘as new.’
And it is a wonderful car to drive…smooth, extremely flexible, with a quality feel generally missing from most Triumphs. But this was a cost-was-no object project and some lucky owner will wind up with a gem for shows, winding country roads, distance touring, and lots of fun.
Very few miles since completion, cost was over $30,000 not including labor, and the results of this work can be seen in the photos. Thanks for looking, happy bidding and good luck.
