1957 Austin Healey Other100-6 Description

I am offering my original survivor 1957 Longbridge Austin Healey BN-4 for sale. It has just over 7,000 miles on the odometer. I do believe it to be a low mileage car. I am the third owner . This is possibly one of the best unrestored big Healeys left. Currently, it is in excellent running condition. It is a survivor and retains its original paint. It was purchased new here in Kansas by a husband for his wife. He died soon after the car was bought. She was very short and had to have a special cushion made for the back of the driver's seat to move here close enough to the steering wheel. Block pedal extensions were fashioned so she could reach the pedals. Because of thi, the car was hardly driven. The second owner purchased the car in 1985 after her death. At that time, a small tree had to be cut down to open the garage door. The car was in remarkably good condition. Mice had ruined the front seats and carpet. They were discarded. The seat covers and carpet were replaced with after market materials. The door panels, center console cover and rear seats are original. I have correspondence from the previous owner about the cars history. I have never doubted his story.

The interior is original with the exception of the seats which were recovered many years ago with vinyl. The carpet is after market as mentioned. The dash has original vinyl cover that is in excellent condition. The gauges are original. The trip meter was broken. The previous owner sent it for repair but it was not done properly. When returned, the speedometer registered fast. I sent it to North Hollywood Speedometer where it was repaired properly. The top is torn but likely original. A new top was purchased by the last owner and it is included. I have not taken it out of the box. The tonneau cover is original with wear. The side curtains are in excellent condition with the original hardware.

The body panels are original including the deck lid, doors and hood. The paint has spider webbed because of age. The gaps or shut lines are excellent as seen. There has never been any significant body damage or repair. There is no blistering of the paint and minimal flaking. There are some superficial scratches and small dents. It is absolutely not perfect. The chrome is unrestored and is in excellent condition. There is paint touch up near the trunk hinges as seen. This was done by the previous owner. There is a paint over spray in the trunk area . This has always been a mystery. I see no evidence of collision damage but I’m not an expert. I think the left rear bumper was hit which pushed the supporting bracket in the trunk. The exterior rear fender and body panel were not damaged. The brace was straightened and repaired. Photos are available. It appears the box section that anchored the brace was repainted. This would have happened during the first owners stewardship. It has one of the original Dunlop tires as a spare. It has a stainless exhaust that was placed in 1985.

The belly pan is solid as seen in the photos. I don't see any evidence of significant rust. There is superficial corrosion where the paint has been chipped through the years. The trunk is solid without evidence of any previous damage. The jack, hammer, tool kit and vinyl bag are there. It has the original owners manual.

The engine is the original. It starts easily and runs well without smoke or unusual noises. Initial oil pressure is 60#. When warm, at idle, it is 50#. The exhaust sounds like a Healey should. The transmission shifts without trouble. The clutch is fine. The rear end is quiet. The tires date from 1985 and will need replacement. The brakes were refurbished in 1985 but not replaced. The car is sitting almost all of the time so the brake pedal is soft but the car does stop. They will need some attention. The original fuel pump failed last year and it was kept. The overdrive works well. The front end is very tight.

I do not think this car should be restored. I am hopeful the new owner will agree.

I have a clear Kansas antique title.

The complete history of this car is known. This is a unique opportunity to own a special car. I am reluctant to sell but I do not drive this car. I've only driven it around 100 miles. I have owned it for 14 years. Ask any question and I will do my best to answer it honestly. My Ebay feedback supports this. I want this car to go to a good home and I want the buyer to be happy with the purchase. I have hundreds of photos and I am willing to take more. I have photos posted on Photo Bucket. Contact me for the link. It will be available for inspection by appointment during the auction. Ideally, it should be inspected prior to purchase like any other car. There may have been concerns not mentioned. I realize it is bold to say it is original so it’s best to see it in person so you can make your own decision. The car is sold “as is, where is” without guarantee written or implied. The car will be picked up at my house. I will not deliver. I require a $500 deposit through Pay Pal within 24 hours and balance in 5 days. The car must be picked up within 30 days. It will not leave here until satisfactory payment has been made. If you cannot meet these requests, please do not bid. Thanks for your interest.
