BODYWORK/TRIM
The beneficiary of a detailed, ground-up restoration, this mighty MoPar currently mixes a correct, 426/4-speed drivetrain with timeless good looks. Even though this Plymouth left the plant in the same shade of Silver Metallic pigment it wears today, we can't help but think the car's current coat of high quality 2-stage is much more stunning. Naturally, fit and finish is better than anything that rolled off the factory's now antique assembly lines. And, thanks to hundreds of hours of carefully planned labor, you can rest assured that those alluring aesthetics are built to last!
For 1966, designers dressed the Belvedere in crisp edges and long scallops that traversed a broad-shouldered body. At the front of that profile, a straight grille floats bright headlights and clear marker lamps between a bold "P L Y M O U T H" script and a thick, wraparound bumper. Behind that grille, a Plymouth 'gun sight' hood ornament centers subtle "426" lettering in front of polished wipers and like-new glass that's framed in polished stainless trim. Beneath that glass, aluminum profile spears split the difference between a correct mirror, factory door handles and a conservative combination of Belvedere and Hemi badging. And at the back of the car, an aluminum trunk banner centers small reverse lamps and bold "P L Y M O U T H" lettering between simple taillights and a second wraparound bumper.
ENGINE
Authenticated by a famous 2468330 casting number and June 13th, 1966 casting date, this hardtop's correct, 426 cubic inch Hemi benefitted from an acute rebuild that occurred during the detailed restoration. As Plymouth's top option for power hungry gearheads, Chrysler's legendary elephant block utilized cast iron heads, an oversquare bore, a forged steel crank, forged steel rods, forged aluminum pistons and a hydraulic cam to twist stout 10.25 to 1 compression into a stated 425 horsepower and 490 lb./ft. of torque. All that high performance hardware spins in a familiar Hemi Orange block, which hangs requisite Organisol-coated valve covers over correct, low-restriction exhaust manifolds. Oxygen is supplied by a polished and decaled air cleaner, which rides correct Carter carburetors and a correct aluminum intake. Compression is sparked by Chrysler Electronic Suppression cables, which are snapped onto a correct points distributor. And a correct, MoPar-branded radiator utilizes pliable hoses and old school squeeze clamps to cool combustion. Since the car's road time appears to have been limited to sunny weekends, its body-matched engine bay is essentially spotless. Mechanically, the big mill cruises just as well as when it rolled out of the restoration shop. And a roster of correct ancillaries includes items like factory decals, a MoPar fuel filter, a Chrysler washer reservoir and a reproduction MoPar battery.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
Under this Plymouth you'll find rock-solid floors that serve as the perfect backdrop for a fully restored suspension. Naturally, that chassis includes a rebuilt manual steering rack. Behind that hardware, a correct A833 4-speed commands a rebuilt 10-bolt axle. Stops come courtesy of four massive drums. Spent gases traverse aluminized pipes, which center an H-shaped crossover in front of baritone turbo mufflers. And at the sides of those tubes, 14-inch steelies twist 7.75-14 BF Goodrich Silvertown blue lines around polished stainless hubcaps.
INTERIOR
According to the Psychology of Color, a sense of considerable power is gained through displayed contrast. That being said, it should come as no surprise that this Plymouth's brilliant paint borders a correct interior that's dressed in miles of monochromatic Black. Front and center, an attractive, stainless-trimmed dash hangs old school telemetry above a correct Plymouth TransAudio radio. In front of that dash, plump vinyl adorns deep bench seats. At the sides of the car, pliable door panels found correct frames over correct armrests. Those panels are sandwiched between a tight headliner and clean carpet, which is protected by red-tinged Belvedere floor mats. The driver carves curves with the help of a red-tinged steering wheel and polished floor shifter. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk features a correct jack and full-size spare tire.
