This was the first year of the 455 HO in the 1971 trans am 455 HO! They did it right with 4 bolt main block the ram air IV intake manifold,Ram air III cam and exhaust maifolds! Backed up all that torque and horsepower with the best transmission the GM ever offered the M22 Rock Crusher 4 speed!Only 882 4 speeds were built in 1971 and not many left. Look on any website for a 4 speed, deluxe interior, ac, rear cassette player optioned car good luck there are none! I see many automatics listed for sale but no 4 speeds! Probably the only left in existence!
It was restored in 2010 and its a rare bird!

The 335-hp 455 High Output was the only engine in the '71 Trans Am. To create the 455 HO, Pontiac borrowed the cylinder heads andcamshaftfrom the previous year's 345-hp Ram Air 400, and added the aluminum intake manifold from the rowdy 370-hp 400 Ram Air IV.
The 455 had less advertised power than the '70 T/A mills, and it couldn't wind as high. But at 8.4:1 compression (compared to 10.5:1 for the retired Ram Air 400s), it could run happily on a wider range offuels, was less temperamental than the Ram Air IV, and with 480 lb-ft oftorqueat a usable 3600 rpm, it packed a real wallop around town. Plus, it had four-bolt mains for strength.
