1956 Pontiac Chieftain Catalina Coupe Model 870 870 Description

Hello !! Up for your consideration is a one owner 1956 Pontiac Chieftain Catalina Coupe 2 Dr. Ht. Model 870. This fairly rare jewel has been a one owner car, since being purchased in 1956 in Portland, OR. from the Windolph Pontiac Co. The largest Northwest dealer at that time. It has all documentation since new (See photos). She starts right up, but the carburetor seems to be dirty inside where the idle jets are. Anything passed the idle circuit the engine runs flawlessly. Could use a minor motor tune~up and the engine compartment detailed. Nothings been touch under the hood besides the regular scheduled maintenance service all these yrs. Engine is tight and has been serviced regularly through all the years. Transmission is tight and smooth in all 4 forward gears. The transmission is the Hydra Matic. Engine & Transmission are original to the car from new !! Steering is tight and responsive. All gauges work as they should.. Interior lights all work as they should. Radio does light up and hums but, does not play the time period am stations. Pontiac in 1956 used white plastic knobs for the dash, radio, vents, door windows, wing window knobs etc. By this time all these knob are gone or have all been faded and broke.. The gear shift knob was white but, is missing as is the turn signal knob. Very hard to come by now days. All the other knobs are accounted for. Brakes work great and for not being power assist brakes, the car stops on a dime effortlessly.. The stainless steel trim on the Pontiac is awesome inside & out. The front & rear bumpers have small pits in them but, definitely perfect for a daily driver and//or show cruiser. The owner washed the car at the local car wash 2 times per week for most of its life thus fading the original amethyst. rose paint. The car was repainted in Portland, OR. in 1968. Only one paint job since new. This Pontiac is not like any of the tri ~ 5 chevys. This car is solid and jet smooth. Rides like a Cadillac down the road. The speedometer is awesome.. Not the regular orange pointer needle but, a solid red line that comes up while driving down the road. The engine is the 316 cu, in. w/ the 2 barrel carburetor. Heater & under the front seat heater work as they should too. The jack, jack stand base & tire iron are accounted for..All the exterior light, turn signals, brake lights work. All glass is in good condition w/ no cracks and/or breaks, The horns work when cross touched with a 12 v jump wire so the steering wheel spring brush inside is more than likely the problem.. That's a lot of years of turning.. The original license plates are on the car. The rear plate still has the original Windolph Pontiac Dealership license plate frame attached to it. The bottom line here is the car needs to be repainted, engine detailed and you're are off to go. The amethyst/rose paint is a beautiful and rich color in its day.. You can just tell when looking at the original paint in the door jambs and trunk. The bottom of the seats use to be a rose pattern but, is faded to grey.. All still solid and functional front & back.Transporting the car is up to the buyer if sold. I can help you load the car and/or be available to help you load the car if need be.. The car is resting inside the garage and awaiting a new owner.. You can come and look the car over too.. :~)Oh' tires are 98% percent to the good at all 4 corners. Items i forgot mention. No rust out on this body. The car had a factory undercoating from new. No accidents !!Oregon does not salt the roads in the winter time. Photos will explain what i can't.. :~)Body trim tag..Style # 56 - 2737Body # BC - 2130Trim # 250Paint # DKTop - Acc -Engine Strato Streak 316 Cu.
