1972 PontiacTrans Am - 455 H.O. - TH400 - 12 Bolt Posi
Car has been in the family for 42 years and has been stored inside most of it's life.
8 years ago we pulled the engine to have it freshened up and upon new start up the block was damaged due to a dropped bolt in the cylinder. The #'s matching block is repairable and comes with the sale of the car. All other drivetrain items are original to the car.
In the mid 80's the car was repainted due to being out in a severe dust storm in the desert (car was owned by my father in law and he was a naval pilot) while the owner was out on maneuvers.
The car is in very nice original condition, runs great and is rust free with one exception. On the passenger side at the base of the windshield on the very corner of the dash is a rustarea you can seewhen looking down through the windshield.
First year Honeycomb wheels (original to the car) also come with the car, current wheels are Carol Shelby TA racingstyle.
86,827 original miles. Very low production #'s in 1972 due to strike at GM
"The 455 HO found in all Trans Am's of this vintage represented a fairly unique approach to performance for its day. While most other manufacturers were simply lowering compression and taming camshafts in response to pending emissions regulations, Pontiac went back to the drawing board to create a low-compression engine that really wasn't a compromise. Using bits from some of its hottest engines of the prior years, engineers topped the biggest version of the V-8 with Ram-Air-style round-port cylinder heads, though with large 111cc combustion chambers yielding 8.4:1, an aluminum intake manifold similar to the Ram Air IV 400, an "068" Ram Air III camshaft, and Ram Air-style high-flow exhaust manifolds. For '71 it was rated at 335hp, but the new rating standard for 1972 resulted in a 300hp figure, though actual output was essentially the same." Hemmings new article
