This auction is for an ultra rare 1969 Ram Air IV GTO and comes from the private collection of Jim Mattison, founder of Pontiac Historic Services (PHS).It was built by the factory with Special Order Starlight Black (code AA) paint.A total of only 165 RA IV's were produced in 1969 with the Heavy Duty Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission.It was also ordered with the HD Safe-T-Track rear axle and 4.33 gears.This was the ultimate GTO performance combination for 1969.
The car is a full numbers matching example with a documented history.Originally delivered through GM of Canada to Nib Johnston Pontiac-Buick-GMC in Courtenay, British Columbia, Canada on March 12, 1969.Nib Johnston's dealership campaigned this GTO for the first year in the NHRA - F/SA class and then later used it as a dealership marketing and promotional vehicle for the next twenty-one years.
This GTO has gone through a full frame-off rotisserie restoration.The car was completely disassembled and stripped to bare metal.The body was then prepped and given a fresh coat of Starlight Black paint.The resulting reassembly and fit is better than new.The frame and all components were dismantled, stripped and restored to "as new" condition, as well.
The original 400 cid, 370hp Ram Air IV engine (XP) was completely disassembled and rebuilt to factory specifications, accumulating just 100 Miles since completion.It is mated to a Heavy Duty Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission, with Heavy Duty Safe-T-Track rear axle and factory "Special Order" 4.33 gears. Other notable items include Cable Controlled Ram Air Hood Inlet, Heavy Duty Suspension, Y96 Handling Package, and G70x14 Firestone Polyglass tires.
