Looking for an early model Boxster? I found you one!
This 1997 Porsche Boxster has all of the things I was looking for: first model year in U.S., one owner, LN Engineering IMS retrofit bearing, and a hardtop. I looked for nearly a year for a Boxster that checks all of the boxes – I found one, bought it, and now have to possibly move to where the car will be of no use to me.
Here are the details of this car.
The original owner special ordered this car in the spring of 1997; it was one of the earliest Boxster’s to arrive in the United States. This car was made inStuttgart, Germany. The factory options that the owner ordered are: Artic Silver Metallic paint, Boxster Red special leather interior – if it’s red it’s either carpet or leather, floor mats, traction control, Sport Package, CD shelf, Colored Crest wheel caps, and the hardtop. The extras added up to nearly $10K; total price in ’97 was $50, 500.00 – see picture of original invoice sticker.
The owner maintained the car meticulously, having performed oil changes every 5K miles, serviced by independent Porsche mechanics in New York and San Francisco. He had an LN Engineering IMS bearing installed as a preventative measure against the possibility of catastrophic failure that haunts random Porsche’s from that period. This was done around 50K miles or so; at that time a new clutch and flywheel was also installed.
The original owner had to move back to Europe; I am hoping to get the maintenance records when all is unpacked. I have spoken to the mechanic that maintained the car during its years in San Francisco and he confirmed the meticulous maintenance on the car.
Here’s what you get.
A beautiful Boxster that runs so smooth and shifts beautifully. I have not found one drop of oil or fluids of any type on my driveway. New tires with approx. 500 miles on them. Oil was changed approx. 1,500 miles ago. The interior is unbelievably well preserved, even by my standards. I replaced the air filter. Cabin filter looks new. Convertible top is in great condition, as it spent most of its life down, in a garage, covered by hardtop; rear plastic window has scuff mark that can most likely be buffed out. Brake pads have plenty of pad left, rotors are smooth. I also cleaned front radiators and checked all drain lines and drain pans – all clear and good. Also, the car was set up for a Valentine one radar detector; it has a hidden display (extra option and labor for installation) near the gear shifter, connector is at top of the dash. -- I do not have the Valentine unit.
There is slight buffing on the driver seat bolster. The exterior paint has a few scratches, front fascia has rock chips – overall, the car looks great. A cut and polish would make this car look even better; I want to leave as much original paint on for as long as possible.
