1983 Toyota Celica Supra L-Type 113k Original Miles
1983 Toyota Supra L-type Description
Behold! 1983 Toyota Celica Supra L-Type Automatic hardtop
113k original miles
3C2 Metallic Maroon with Terra Cotta Cloth interior
Digital-dash option (works and looks great)
Pros (outside of the above):
--Bone stock, original owner until 2013 with lots of paper work back until about 2003
--In that paperwork includes new timing belt, full tune up, and alternator all within the past 5k miles
--also done (past owner still searching for the paperwork) at Toyota dealership is about $1500 in maintenance including new battery, new tires, all new fluids, cooling system flush and brakes all within the last 1500 miles--new p/s and alt belts installed last week
--all that new stuff you can feel when driving and braking, feels very good on the road
--original paint and body, and out side of a few door dings and marks, is in excellent shape
--all original interior in very good shape, little sign of wear and tire outside of some marks on steering wheel leather, which is also in better then average shape
--runs fantastically, drove from Seaside, OR to my home in Martinez, CA in an 11 hour straight shot at 70mph-ish without a complaint or hic-up. Returned around 28mpg pure hwy
--very solid, less squeaks/rattles/shimmies then my wife's 2011
Cons (being very picky here for a 33 year old car):
--a little rust, not bad at all, but there is some repairable rust in the underside of the hatch and in the L quarter at the bottom where the lower moulding mounts. No other rust concerns, and you've got lots of time before it starts becoming an issue, see photos
--the EGR valve doesn't work. If you live in California then you'll need to replace this to pass smog, if you live in most anyplace else in the US then you've got nothing to worry about as it effects nothing else. (if you live in CA please note as it is Reg in Oregon CA smog is up to you, but the EGR fix is cheap and easy)
--PS pump is whiny, from time to time, not a big deal and I think it just needs a flush with ATF (as Toyota originally recommended) instead of P/S Fluid
--OEM radio has the fuse pulled. In the original owner'sreceiptsit states that they did some minor wiring repair at the headlamp and pulled the stereo fuse. Doesn't list why the fuse was pulled. Haven't popped a new fuse in, might need a stereo, might be just the fuse but I'm gun shy to put in a fuse as I don't want to short anything and when I do drive the car I don't miss the stereo so I haven't mess with it
--also the HVAC blower motor doesn't power on, might be related to the above fuse issue but haven't looked into it yet. Even if it's a bad motor, it's an easy fix and any motor from any Celica or Supra '82-'85 from pick and pull will bolt right in
--fuel gauge always reads 3/4 of a tank. I've only gotten like 9 gallons deep into a full tank, so maybe it will move when it's nearly empty, but I doubt it. I just top off the tank every 250 miles on the ODO and don't worry about it--belt for the A/C compressor is missing, maybe it needs a Compressor but no clue.--as you can see in the photos the rear cargo bay carpet is dead. You can find decent replacement carpet on here from time to time and it's an easy swap. A simple piece of carpet cut to fit and placed over the back like you see in the photos is a great fix until you can track down a replacement
All told it a sweet L-type in rare condition, quite the highway cruiser and turns heads with the condition that it's in. If I didn't need a newer car for my new job then I would keep this guy as it's stone reliable and everyone that gets a ride in it falls in love with it. I would personally feel good jumping in and driving it any distance without thinking twice. Buy her, fly in, pick her up and drive her home. Hoping that she goes to a great new home with somebody that will keep her going strong.
