1985 VW Vanagon Camper Van
1985 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Description
I will try to cover everything so people can have the answers to most of their questions from reading this, but there is a lot to cover with a vehicle like this, so feel free to contact me and ask further questions.
I have a 1985 (actual year model 1985.5--slightly different options than just 1985) VW Vanagon with the Riviera pop-top option. Very similar to the Vanagon Westfalia in capability, but the top pops straight up instead of angled. Still sleeps 2 up top, and 2 (or 3 small people) on the fold-flat bed below. Has the full camper setup--gas stove, refrigerator, sink, gas and water tanks, table, swivel chairs, storage, bug nets, and curtains. EVERYTHING still works perfectly--this van has been treated very well, and everything from the reading lights, to the curtains, to the zippered and bug-netted "windows" on the pop top work perfectly. There are no leaks anywhere (with the top up or down), there are no issues with anything electric (lights, switches, engine computer or sensors, etc), and it runs wonderfully. This is a very clean Vanagon Camper inside and out.
The only blemishes of any kind on this vehicle are on the exterior from a couple small events (see pictures). On the front, there are a couple of larger indents, only superficial, and on the back corner, a couple of small indents, also superficial. On the drivers side back window, there is a small rust spot on the bottom corner, but that is the only rust you will find on the car anywhere, including the undercarriage, (besides small amounts of surface rust around the dents). Other than that, the car has been very well cared for.
In terms of the engine and drivetrain and such, it too is all in very good condition. The engine runs beautifully and has no issues whatsoever--no oil leaks, no coolant leaks, no misfires, no problem starting, no overheating, no nothing. It is a great running motor. The transmission was just overhauled recently and is very fresh and shifts smoothly. The brakes work well and the suspension is in good condition. All major and minor maintenance has been kept up on very fully and regularly, and the car just received a checkup prior to listing to make sure nothing was needing fixing.
This van is a blast to drive and is an amazing option for someone who wants to be able to go on an adventure whenever you feel the desire.
