1971 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Base Description
This is a rust free, accident free, original VW Karmann Ghia in outstanding condition in every way possible. It was professionally painted in 1988 its original color, Adriatic Blue and shines like new since it was garaged from 1988 to 2016. I have a blog that has every photo you can imagine at:
71karmannghia.blogspot.com
I will post more photos tomorrow, including on the underside. There are quite a few youtube videos linked on my blog as well if you want to go for a virtual ride.
The car comes complete with original owner's manual, original jack and tool kit, as well as the blue plates that were on the vehicle in the 70's, and the front plate, plus some original documentation.
There is also a roof rack included in the sale, and you can pick between stock wheels with hubcaps and beauty rings as shown in the photos or the Porsche style alloys as shown in the night time photos.
Everything works! The car runs and drives like a dream. There are many news parts including new calipers and brake pads all around. The engine compartment was recently detailed. The dash pad and dash face were replaced with new stock parts of the best quality. The carpet, door panels, headliner, and all windows, window gaskets, lights, seats, front and back are original to the car from new. The trunk liner up front is new. The wires look like new, but they are original to the car. The radio works great! The mp3 player comes with the car so you can have your pick of tunes running through and amp and two speakers in the backseat floor board. No modification were made with the exception of running two wires to the battery through existing holes.
This Karmann Ghia has one key for everything except the glove box lock which has a separate key. The ignition still buzzes when the key is in the ignition after turning off the car to remind you. The doors lock properly with the auto unlock when you shut the door, unless you hold the handle in as a safety feature. The seats function well. The e-brake is tight. The front disk brakes lock up if you firmly press the brake pedal. All the seals around the doors are original and in soft supple condition. The bright work is clean and shiny. There are a few minor dings on the bumpers. There are a few minor scratches that I touched up and color sanded and buffed out today. Photos of any wear and tear will be on the blog. The trunk cables work well and both lock when closed. Windows go up and down fine and popouts function well too. All the lights on the dash work great including the rear defroster. The wipers work great as does the water mister. The clock keeps good time. The gas gauge is accurate, and so is the speedo and odometer. The interior light works when the doors are opened or if you click it on. The heat works fine. The seat belts are in excellent condition. The blinkers work great and self cancel. The dual horn is original and sounds great with a tap of the horn ring on the steering wheel. The steering wheel has been restored and shows well with no cracks or chips. The hazards work perfectly and the knob flashes in the cabin. The rear seat latches to stay up, or unlatches to fold down. The coat hooks were broken so new ones were in stalled. There are no tears in the headliner or seat upholstery. The charging system works fine, as does the clutch, accelerator, steering, etc. The suspension is tight and quiet with no rattles. The car steers straight down the highway with no hands and will do the same with no hands and the brakes slammed. Wow! For a 45 year old car, this thing function and looks like new!
Enjoy and good luck bidding! You won't be disappointed if you go for this special rare gem that is quickly appraising, and will only become more scarce with time, adding to the value! All parts are available if the need should be presented, and there are mechanics everywhere that know how to work on these simple, elegant vintage VWs. Thanks for looking!
