1968 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Description

1968 Karman Ghia. This is a nice littlecar that looks good and drives the same. The interior is very nice from the headliner down to the rugs---nothing worn or shabby.I bought this in 2009 for my wife and she may have driven it maybe 500 miles. I love driving it but I'm 6'1' and 250 pounds so it is not an easy fit for me. I have made improvements to the car since I have owned it. Yesterday I had a new stock carb put on it along with new rubber fuel linesand the electrical system checked---it charges at 13.8 volts. There is a brand new battery. 2 new front brake hoses. There were stress cracks in the pan around the stick shift and hand brakeand those were professionally repaired when the stick shift selector was rebuilt. it shifts as it should and you know what gear you are putting it into. Hand brake works as it should. Stock original seat belts. The horn and wipers work. The speedowas rebuilt. The 1584cc motor runs like a clock as does the transmission. The shop manual calls for Bias 5.60 X 15 tires but I have 165R 15s on it with wide white walls--they still have the rubber tire mold injection pips on them. This is a California black license plate car and I have the pink slip on it. The car is solid. Please keep in mind that the car is 48 years old. I don't know anything about the car prior to my buying it.Mileage states 61785- I kept the original mileage on the speedo when it was rebuilt. Buyer is responsible for shipping Please note my Ebay transaction history. I will reject bids from non established Ebay bidders.

3/9/2016 Added photos of the underside of the car. Looks pretty damn good. California car with undercoating. I remember having this done to a 914 Porsche I bought back in 1970. The undercoat was a dealer option that cost about a hundred bucks. Even looking at the car from underneath I can only see the powder blue color even in the nooks and crannies.

3/20/2016 Someone asked for the paint code off a color ID plate-can't find any plate like that. I did find a spot with what might have been the original color and it looks like a grey/blue which the color chart for 1968 models calls LAVENDER. Is it the original color? I don't know. Like I say, the car is 48 years old. There isan Empi tool kit and a $300.00"California Car cover" in excellent condition.

4/1/2016 OK I just had some electrical work done. The speedo lights were not hooked up when I had it rebuilt so when I took it in to have that done right I decided to have it all done rightand installed a new ignition switch, blinker/flasher and switch, directional signal lever, emergency flasher, headlight switch. The horn works, the wipers work, the red and green ignition/oil lights work, the stop/head/directional lights all work. There is a Kenwood CD player that works. All those little things that work fine on a new car but are iffy on an old one. Black Plate means that this is an original California car -they don't salt the roads in California so cars from California or Arizonaaren't eaten awayunderneath by rust. There is a thick wad of yearly registration stickers on the back plate.
