Passat b5 2002 wagon AWD VW Volkswagen GLX
2002 Volkswagen Passat GLX Description
I am selling my much loved and well cared for (but highly driven) 2002 VW Passat. This AWD wagon has been everywhere (if you count Montana and Utah as everywhere). It's been extremely dependable for me but as it got up there in years and mileage I started looked for it's replacement. I have upgraded to a 2007 VW Passat AWD Wagon. The V6 GLX AWD is perhaps the best power-plant of these years. No issues with a leaky turbo to worry about. It shares a ton of Audi A4 mechanics, and is essentially a low-end A4 wagon! I dove this car to and from Montana where living here, and to Utah while living there. I've crossed the country a few times in it, and diven from MT to CA about 6 times, and MT to Denver at least a dozen. I ski 100 plus days a year, and while living in Montana I drove 120 miles each day I skied on average, so almost all the miles have highway miles. While the car goes 100 miles per hour very easily, I've babied it (and my fuel economy) by usually driving 5 miles under the speed limit for most of my trips.
Details:
The Good Stuff:
-Water Pump, Thermostat and timing belt at 120,000 and 200,000 miles.
-Alternator replaced at 165,000ish miles
-Rack and pinion replacement at 185,000ish miles
-Heated Seats work great!
-Apple Iphone/IPod Classic line in jack pre-wired in glove box as aux in!
-CD/Tape works great
-I have all the service records, I have had all the major repairs done at a dealership or VW certified service center. Oil changes have been done at the same or VW specialty shops.
The Bad:
-Car has hood and roof hail damage. Can't see it until you get close. Vehicle was "totaled out" due to this in 2014. Does not affect insurance for anything else on the car. (Cannot claim damage to car hood in accident, everything else can be claimed).
-Check engine light comes on and off due to evap leak. Could be a purge value issue, or a pin-hole in a line somewhere. Shop I have work done on can resolve the issue for annual emissions test if the light happens to be on.
-Heater core needs yearly cleaning (50 bucks) in lue of 800 buck replacement. Clogged cores is a well documented issue on almost all 2002-2005 Passats (my second, both have had that issue).
Everything else works great! AWD with winter tires screams up the canyons. Tiptornic shifting works wonderfully! No gearing slips, idle issues, etc. Last mechanic commented he did a "double take" and that for it's mileage the car is in great shape. I have a local VW guy who's a few block from my house who can give you a once over if you'd like too.
Car has full sized brand new all season spare tire included as well!
