1975 Volkswagen Type II (Bus, Camper Van)
1975 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Description
1975 Volkswagen Type II (Bus, Camper Van).
PA Inspection good through August 2016.
Clear title in hand.
This is a Richard Holdsworth camper conversion. Many clues from the original conversion still remain, but the original interior, aux heater, and propane tank were removed by a previous owner. I replaced the bellows of the accordion top, as well as installed new seals, new skylight, fresh paint, EPDM Liquid RV Roof, and the headliner, before placing the top back on the camper. I then sourced and installed interior parts from a 1977 Westfalia. The sink is not hooked-up, however the shore power connection has been installed as per original specs and works great. Unlike a Westfalia, headroom is plentiful with the accordion top up. Adults can enjoy unrestricted headroom the length of the top and 360 degree views through the windows of the bellows. Not only does the rear seat convert into the main bed, the original cots can easily be opened and provide sleeping quarters for two more in the space above. Fresh air can be had by opening the skylight, louvered windows, or utilizing the magnetic screen that fills the opening of the rear hatch. I installed custom curtains to compliment the vehicle, including the front cab and floor to ceiling curtains at the side entrance.
Since ownership I've serviced or had professional services done to make sure this is a safe and reliable vehicle. Items serviced include, but not limited to door locks, fuel cap, exterior lighting, brake system, rebuilt engine with new heads, clutch, pressure plate, tires, fuel filter, air filter, air flow meter, cold start valve, ignition system, seat belts, stereo system, etc.
If I were to continue writing my detailed history with this vehicle it may turn into a novel. If you're serious about purchasing this vehicle I'm sure I'll hear from you and we can continue the story at that time. I will say that I've put about 15k miles on this vehicle over the past 5 years of ownership. I've traveled between Philadelphia, PA and Toronto, Canada in this camper and it never skips a beat. The fuel injected engine has always served me well, especially when I raced it around Watkins Glen International a couple years ago. This Volkswagen might have earned an award or two at local events, but it's really for those who want to get out on the road and put it to good use!
