In a moment of too many cocktails and nostalgia, in sept 2015 I bought not one, but two volvos, a 1971 1800 and a 1973 1800 es. I owned several of these in my 20's
and i'm now in my 60's. I don't know if I thought they would make me look like 20 again, but they didn't!! I absolutely love these cars and their beautiful lines but it
was a silly purchase. Hence, i am selling both of them at no reserve because i do not want to not be able to park in my garage for another winter.
This auction is for the 1800 ES (the hatchback), personally my favorite of the two. I had an 1800es 40 years ago that was my daily driver. You could store a lot of stuff
in the hatchback, especially with the little back seats down.
This car is a real beauty and a head turner. There are no flaws in the paint or rust that I can see. It appears to be very solid. There are also no cracks in the dash which
is unusual. I just put new tires on it and have only driven it about 30 miles. Again, this is a no reserve auction because I just want my garage back. I think I paid just
under $14,000 last year. I expect to lose money but I don't care.
The car drives great and according to the place I bought it from, got a rebuilt engine 58,000 miles ago. The odometer shows 246,000. The only non-working items I
noticed are the gas gauge, turn signals, and tach, but I think a wire might have come loose since they worked when I got the car. It is a 4 speed with overdrive and
does not have air conditioning.
