1999 BMW 5-Series M Sport Description
Hello, I am selling my 1999 BMW E39 540i M Sport with the 6 manual speed transmission. The engine is *very powerful, no hesitation, raw power, dead smooth, and whisper quiet internals. ( Vanos' are making a mild, but not alarming hum, actually sounds uniform and deliberate, and these engines are known for this, new chains, so it's an elective, *not a necessity, to service them ) . The transmission is solid and very tight. The gearbox is silent with *no grumbles, when the car is runnin, in neutra, with a foot off the clutch. Silent cold and when fully warm. No pop outs or any grinding at all. It has the BMW rubbery but firm feel to the shift throws. It feels great. Confidence in the drivetrain will exhume. The clutch was replaced this year, with a full original German LUK Kit. That's a new disc, pressure plate, release bearing, and pilot bearing, along with graphite moly grease for the manual transmission input shaft splines. The dual-mass flywheel was not replaced, but it works great and it was resurfaced to ensure a smooth operation. I'll go as far to say that it feels like it is brand new. Because it is. Smooth take up with no judde, shudder or vibration. Excellent grab. It's a joy to drive. When the transmission was removed to replace the clutch, the rear main crankshaft oil seal and the water jacket outlet opening gasket ( this is when the coolant leaks from in between the bell housing ) were also replaced. That's sure to save thou$and$ in the future. Moving on... The suspension is tight. Recently replaced new; the front sway bar link, and the front control arm bushings. The suspension strut damping is Original front and rear. It has that original E39 unflappable ability to absorb any surface with superb solid muted feel, like only an original E39 sport suspension can. It's not brand new, it's got 150k on it, but the struts are not asking for replacement by any means. It drives great. Feels like it is under NO stress. Effortless acceleration, cornering and braking. All while being *perfectly smooth. I am an enthusiast, and I care for my cars. I replace things...before they "go out". The interior is good. It's just about perfec, except for a small spot on the drivers sport seat. Both seats work perfectly and do not have *any motor malfunction, or twisting, etc. The headliner is not sagging. The steering wheel leather is still shiny and smooth. No holes, gouges, rips or tears or visually worn spots. A woman owned it before me. It was also loved by her. EVERYTHING on the inside works; all 4 Windows, the sunroof, AC is cold, DSC stability control, all lights and gauges work. Signals etc. work. The body is all original. Original paint and all original body panels. No fading paint anywhere. Not even 1 spot. Never been in any accidents. There are a couple dings, shown in pics. The Windows have never been tinted. This car was just driven responsibly and cared for with an intelligent owner at the wheel. It has a Clean title. It just passed the strict CA smo, where it took a trip on the dyno, and it passed unbelievably clean.. The last category ( see pics ) which measures the catalytic converter efficiency, is in single digits, the max threshold is in the hundreds ... It's barely putting out ANY thing.... It was also renewed registration until AUGUST 2017. This is a solid daily driver with NO problems, for a time to come. This car could bag a cross country trip without ever popping the hood, for those of you considering picking it up from far away. I can assist in any in-person pickups or shipping efforts. I have multiple BMW's. I have driven only BMW for 20 years. Unfortunately I have to downsize and she must go. It's a turn key vehicle with no lurking maintenance issues. There are however a couple things ; after 2 new brake pad sensors and good brake pad material left...the check brake linings warning comes up, and the instrument cluster add MID radio display could use new crystal ribbons. That's about it. I hope you are interested in my car and would love to own an original unmodified manual E39 540 such as this that you won't have to work on. I have a very modest reserve set. I am moving and can't take it with me. You will be very happy with your purchase, being one thing I can assure you. Happy bidding. Feel free to ask ANY questions.
Notables :• Wheels are original magnesium Style 32 wheels, and they have never been refinished. They are the Staggered 17" X 8" front and 17" X 9" rear wheels.
• Equipped with the upgraded premium DSP sound system that features separate factory rear woofers into the rear deck located in the trunk. Sounds good, with lots of crisp highs, and deep bass.
• Programmed to be able to roll the windows UP or DOWN from the BMW original factory key remote...
Quick note ; due to the instrument cluster display needing a new ribbon. When I went for smog, They listed the miles at 0. I purchased the car in 2015, and the paperwork at that time, showed that it came from a local Nissan new car dealership that received it as a trade-in, and they had the miles listed at 150k. I have been driving it as a 4th, 5th car for almost 2 years. At max, 155k miles on it.
Also: My reserve is reasonable. Please don't be put off by it...

On Dec-19-16 at 07:25:06 PST, seller added the following information:If you have ANY concerns about the internal condition of the engine... In the picture of the strict ( and often frustrating/expensive for some ) CA smog results...NO amount of exhaust fumes exceeded a maximum single digit of *3, in ANY category. The engine is *almost putting out *O emissions... In one of the categories, it actually MEASURED 0.0 in the 15 MPH & 0.0 in the 25 MPH Dyno test. The engine is very healthy...and burning amazingly clean...with the original Catalytic converters...
