1998 BMW Z3 Description

1998 BMW Z3 Roadster 2.8L Exlusive Editions Dakar Yellow in very good condition.
The timeless lines of the BMW Z3 combined with this exclusive editions Dakar Yellow exterior and Black Cobra leather interior with Yellow seat piping keeps this roadster turning heads every time it hits the road.
The exclusive editions version of the 2.8L Z3 included the unique exterior and interior, upgraded wheels, power soft top, heated seats and door mirrors, Harmon Kardon stereo (in-dash cassette with in-trunk 6-disc CD changer), power driver and passenger seats.
This roadster has been well-maintained over the years. It was purchased with approximately 12,000 miles on it by my father and I took ownership at approximately 95,000 miles. So, although vehicle history reports will indicate 3 owners, it has only been in two families.
Mechanically, this car is very solid. The engine is powerful and runs smoothly. The transmission shifts as smoothly as ever. As with any vehicle over 100k, a few minor exterior and interior flaws can be seen if you know where to look.
Exterior: Overall, great condition. A few tiny dings and scratches can be seen, most of which have been touched up using a basic color-matched touch up pen. The only real notable defect is at the lower front bumper on the drivers side (pictured). Black stone guards will be included.
Interior: The drivers side seat belt guide is broken, a notorious issue for these cars. I glued it for my father years ago and it has held just fine. You'd have to know to look for it to see that its broken. These can be replaced but it involves taking the entire seat out and seat cover off, which I have not been inclined to do. There are also a few repair kits available on the web and on eBay if you felt so inclined. The leather of the door side of the drivers seat shows wear, another common issue in these cars. The leather began to separate in one spot which was re-sealed. It has held up fine during my ownership.
Electrical: There are a few electrical "annoyances" that I have intended to address but haven't had time. Instrument cluster: airbag light is always on, the oil light comes on when braking/slowing down, and the check engine light comes on intermittently. I had a diagnostic test run and the only error code was: P0446. After some investigation, there is a DIY solution for this involving changing or re-lubing the charcoal canister. The oil light is likely related to a bad oil pressure sensor or loose wire to the sensor (as this persists despite numerous routine oil changes and there being plenty of oil in the car). The airbag light does not seem to be of much significance as no error code shows up during diagnostics. The light behind the heat/air conditioning/vent dials needs to be replaced. Some of the little LED lights in the clock are out. All of the LED lights in the stereo work. The passenger side window goes down slowly (and sometimes needs a little push) but goes up normally. Again, I call these things "annoyances" as they have no impact on the function of the car.
CarFax and AutoCheck reports are available, as is a PDF of the original BMW brochure for the Exclusive Editions Dakar Yellow 2.8L Z3.

This roadster is a true joy to drive and I will be sad to see it go. It feels like somewhat of a family heirloom... but, I've decided its time for me to try something new. The next owner will be lucky to have this blast of a car!
