The car's been properly maintained, serviced and repaired since I bought it in 10/07. Most of the service records from that time on are present.
No rust anywhere on the body, stone chips have always been promptly touched up.
It has, today, a brand new set of BMW floor mats given to me by the local BMW dealer a while back to square an issue with another e39 I had, and that have been sitting unused for a few years. The old set is in the trunk and is in decent shape.
The car runs well, everything works and it is in generally clean and good condition, except as noted below:
There are the usual minor scuffs and dings on the bodywork, but nothing that I would call damage that needs to be repaired..
Much of the wheel rim's clear-coat has peeled and the rims underneath are discolored. It's a common problem with the style 42 rim. They can be refinished.
The front bumper cover has sprung away from the fender sides. It needs to be removed and remounted.
There is an oil leak from the area of the oil filter carrier. It could be the carrier gasket or the oil pressure switch leaking, though both have already been replaced in the past 2 or 3 years.
There is an occasional rattle coming from the rear suspension. I think it's most likely the sway bar drop links but it could be something else. A rear ball joint went bad a year ago and was replaced but this is different.
These last 3 items above are DIY jobs that I would have done myself but I am leaving the US very soon and I have run out of time for things like this. The car must be picked up before 5/31/16.
