BACKGROUNDAfter searching for months to find an e39 530i Sport t to keep as a daily driver. I wanted to have the best platform that BMW had created along with the reliability of the in-line 6 cylinder. I finally found it about 6 months ago: a clean California car, two-owner with relatively low-miles. I had the car delivered to Ohio. It is nearly entirely original (with exception of the headlights which are aftermarket replacements with euro style sides markers).I did drive the car over this past winter (about 1000 miles), the car's first exposure to sleet and salt in over 11 years.
I have recently taken two 600 mile round trips for business and was amazed to see that I averaged nearly 31mpg at 80mph!
So why am I selling after only 6 months? I just landed a new job which comes with a company car, a Ford Fusion :( and simply cannot justify keeping my BMW and paying for the insurance, maintenance, etc when I know that it will hardly be driven. My loss is your gain.
CONDITIONThis car is no museum piece. It has been regularly driven but well cared for through out it's life.Below I will do my best to describe the condition of the car:
Mechanical/Electrical: This car was inspected by the best local indie shop in town. The only known issue is that the windshield wiper fluid lines have broken and no longer send fluid to the sprayers (a $100 fix). Everything else works as it should. The brakes and rotors are probably due for a refresh in the next 5k miles. The steering is aligned and firm. Electrically, everything is as it should be and I have not noticed any glitches or malfunctions. The power seat adjustments function well (they are not heated seats). The sunroof, mirrors and windows all work perfectly. No check engine light/codes are showing.
Exterior: The body and paint are solid. Up close the clear coat shows signs of 11 years of being baked and blasted in the California desert, but there are no scratches and very few chips. There is only one very light dent that I could find which is in the rear driver's side quarter panel. It is only visible upon very close inspection. There is one spot of surface rust near the trunk key as well as some paint loss and touch up just below on the trunk lip (see photo). The passenger side rocker panel looks to have been repaired because it is somewhat deformed as you can see in the photos, however the paint looks good in that area. The headlights and taillights all function properly.
Interior: The interior is solid with no significant flaws. The car is a non-smoker and has no odors. The Montana leather is somewhat stiff, but shows no signs of splitting or cracking. The steering wheel appears to have been repainted in the past because the leather grain is no longer visible and the finish is gloss rather than mat. The front and rear pillar fabric has loosened in places, but could be repaired if needed. The displays (dash and NAV) show no dead pixels! A 12v cig lighter was added in the small storage box near the armrest for a an additional USB option. There is no CD changer in the trunk. I have been using an FM radio bluetooth adaptor for music and phone calls. The NAV has been upgraded to MKIV and updated to the latest software version (3D map view) and includes the last maps (2014) that will be supplied for the MKIV NAVI system. I added new OEM All-Weather floor mats last November. I have one original remote key and added one new basic key.
Wheels/Tires: The original BMW BBS style 42, two-piece sport wheels are not perfect, but are in good overall condition. There are some very minor curb rashes here and there and the aluminum lip has a little bit of clear-coat separation that these wheels are notorious for, but remain very presentable. The tires are Continental ContiPro Contact All seasons with over 50% tread remaining.(Note: if interested I have a set of OEM style 42 wheels with New Michelin Winter/Snow tires that I only put about 1000 miles on over this past winter...They are NOT included in this auction, but you can make an offer if interested)
