1970 was the pinnacle of the American muscle car movement. Too much performance just wasn’t enough, and user friendliness was exchanged for a healthy combination of style, attitude and danger. Just take a look at this Chevelle Super Sport, a car that wraps muscular styling around serious big block horsepower and the kind of hardware that’s become the stuff of legend. With its ample and inexpensive parts supply, ease of ownership and classic, all-American appeal, this real-deal matching numbered LS6 represents the top dog muscle car that every octane-fueled gear-head wants to park in their garage.

But before we get too far, let’s first take a close look at the VIN and Cowl Tag:

This is an absolutely gorgeous nut and bolt rotisserie restoration of the Legendary LS-6. This Cortez Silver on Black 1970 SS 454 is Iconic and All American; wrapped into one bold package.

The owner is the consummate car guy and when he puts his stamp of approval on a classic, you can be sure it is nothing but the highest quality example. His attention to detail is all over this superbly built motoring gem from the classic era of muscle car mania. It has been sorted to perfection and will drive, handle and ride with the best of the best restorations.

This Chevelle was restored in the 2007-2008. It was purchased by the current owner in 2008 with 200 miles and has spent everyday of its life since indoors here in a Southern California heated and air conditioned building. Less than 600 miles have been clocked since full restoration.

I am helping sell this vehicle for a long-time associate and friend. You will actually be acquiring the car from him should you choose to buy it. The car has a clear California Title in his name.

Just as a matter of reference the last twenty-five years of my life have been based around restoring and collecting classic cars. I have been a Concour Judge at various venues around Southern CA. I have been a Judge for NCRS and PCA for many years. I strongly believe in Southern CA Classic Cars as the nicest examples on the Planet. This is one of those cars.

BODY & PAINT

As with any high caliber classic, this Chevy’s paint and bodywork is first-rate throughout. Its original Cortez Silver finish was accurately duplicated, including black stripes that have been buried under glossy clear for killer, show car looks. That paint highlights a roster of steel which, when combined with its clean frame, documents a history of no rust or damage. That steel’s reboot is extremely well done, featuring finish work that’s befitting an ultra-rare concour quality show queen. And naturally, everything was carefully color-sanded and buffed to a mirror-like shine.
The entire car was fully disassembled and placed on a rotisserie for the work, so every single nook and crevice was faithfully prepped and finished to better-than-new. This beauty is show car ready.
Chrome, including the bumpers, hood pins, and badges, are all spectacular with no issues. The rear bumper features correct SS inserts, and the parking light and taillight lenses look fresh. Both original bumpers were triple plated and look outstanding. The exceptional original tinted glass side windows are in place. The front window was replaced during the restoration. The exhaust tips are NOS GM.
The car and frame were fully walnut blasted, everything was painted according to factory standards including new markings as were applied at the factory for that period fresh Concour look.
INTERIOR

Inside, you’ll find one spectacular interior. The black looks just right against the Cortez Silver paint. This is, of course, an original bucket seat car, and the interior has been fully restored to stock specifications. The seat-covers and foam are new, as are the door panels, and the dash pad has been replaced. Running down the center of it all is a full-length console with GM’s great-looking Muncie 4-Speed Shifter. New black carpets match the beautifully fitted black vinyl top. And in the trunk, spatter finish paint is protected by a correct trunk mat and spare tire.
One of the things that strikes me with this interior is the quality of the new materials. The newer, cheaper Chinese materials are not present in this build. Everything really has the look and feel or original. If it wasn’t so unworn I would have possibly mistaken it for a completely original survivor interior. The colors and feel of the materials are dead on with how they were presented back in the day.
ENGINE & DRIVETRAIN

The engine is the matching numbered 454 with 450 horsepower that came with the car from the factory. Details are accurate throughout, from the hoses and clamps to the freshly plated master cylinder and power brake booster. Chrome valve covers were part of the RPO Z25 package, and combined with the bright Chevy Orange engine block and heads, the motor itself really pops inside this engine bay, which looks like it would have just off the showroom floor in 1970. Better, in fact.
Other details, colors, and markings are authentic, too. And in case you’re wondering, yes, it runs even better than it looks. Twist the key and it fires to life with a rumbling idle that tells you this is no ordinary grocery-getter Malibu, and this LS6 seems to have endless reserves of torque out on the open road.

A correct cowl induction air cleaner feeds the beast, while original style cast iron exhaust manifolds dump into a dual exhaust system. All big block SS Chevelles received chrome-plated valve covers, and the details on this one are correct: correct plating on things like the alternator and brake master cylinder, as well as a brand new wiring harness.

This particular LS6 is backed by a durable M22 Rockcrusher 4-Speed transmission. Out back, a familiar Chevy 12-bolt rear packing 3.73 gears and a Posi unit transmits the power to the pavement. Note: the original rear-end was 4.11 gearing, but was changed during the restoration. The rest of the chassis is just as accurate, with satin black floors that show no signs of rust or previous damage. An authentic dual exhaust system has been installed, correct down to the chrome tips under the rear bumper, and you’ll be delighted to see reproduction markings throughout the chassis.

Better than new also extends to the chassis, with its body-colored floors and highly detailed components. The power disc brake system has been fully rebuilt, there’s a new gas tank out back, and all the suspension bushings and shock absorbers are new. Correct 14-inch SS Wheels wear F70-14 Goodyear Polyglas bias plys that look exactly right in the Chevelle’s big wheel wells. This Big Block rides and handles just as it would have when it was new.

In today’s world of collector cars, it’s important to be careful with what you’re buying. The true investment-grade cars are those with proof that they are what they appear to be, and the best cars to own are those that have been correctly and authentically restored. This Chevelle is all that, being a real LS6 wearing its factory-issued colors, and carefully restored to near perfection. The original Tank Sticker pictures are attached. Note how all the numbers date code correctly for this build.

Oh, and it’s also beautifully finished and detailed to a level that will compete for trophies at any show venue.

Overall, this glossy Silver Chevy is the total package. With a king-of-the-mountain big block and legendary Muncie 4-speed, it was and still remains an excellent example of ‘bragging rights’ muscle. If you’re ready for some first class firepower in your automotive arsenal, don’t miss the chance to take home this spectacular Chevelle Super Sport! Handsome, fast, and nicely finished, this Chevelle is exactly the kind of car we all wish we could own, and here’s your chance.
